Thanks again @Chuckable for putting together this thread. Your photos were very helpful during install.

Glad you made a separate thread! It’ll definitely help out anyone doing the install.

Just a PSA for people with 17+ Toyota 86s that are considering this cooler.

GReddy has a 2017+ Toyota 86 version now which uses a different shroud. Got mine in today from CouterSpace Garage and mocked up the shroud real quick to take a picture. You can see the difference in shape and size compared to the original one.

Do you know if the shroud is sold alone? Looks like it could work w/ my Mocal core.

I don’t know, but I don’t think it would be very difficult to make a shroud at home if you really wanted one.

I know GReddy sells the cooler without the shroud, so maybe you could order one separate? Would probably have to contact them directly though

I was about to make one, and mocked up using amazon prime box.. my average cruising oil went from 185 to 175*f with AC on full blast... This is in 92*f ambient temps. I also have a 16 row core. A smaller sized core would have been more streetable.

PS shrouds are fucking effective lol

12410100 is the GReddy part number for the shroud/"Air guide" for the pre-facelift twins.
You'll have to import it yourself or find someone to do it for you.
You can easily find retailers if you just Google that part number.
Example

It's not really cheap but that's the price you pay if you don't want to try to make it yourself.
(Not sure it will even fit your Mocal core or not)

Home depot and $30 then add some elbow grease. the centralized location makes the oil cooler extra efficient once the radiator fans come on. The mock up I made was sponsored by Jeff Bezos. It only worked a little too well. I removed it just last week.

2017+ Toyota 86 Oil cooler fits nice and snug. No mods/cutting etc needed. Works like a charm too. The high today was around 115º F and between driving around in the city and cruising on the highway at 70-75, the oil temp never went over 190º.

I saw as high as 230-240º in similar conditions prior to installing the cooler.

Upon cold start the oil takes time to come up to operating temp?

Thanks.

I find it takes about 8-10 mins of driving on average to get it fully up to temp in reasonable weather (27C/80F outside). This is typically from leaving my driveway, where I start my car and wait until the engine idle drops to normal from the cold start mode (about a minute or so).

Mine was actually taking 15min in 110ºF+ to get to the 190º mark on teh gauge lol.

It's definitely an efficient cooler. I drive pretty conservatively on the street anyways, so it doesn't bother me that it takes additional time to get up to temp.
