I don't know what anyone is doing to bring about this noise, as I've never heard it myself. Maybe I just don't ramp up cams fast enough to do it, who knows? I guess I've never really listened for it either, though.

Just to be clear there seems to be two different noises. The "bad" noise will be accompanied with other symptoms in the log, the other noise will look fine in a log.

Did you notice in your log if you have a wave in the DI pressure? I haven't looked at your raw log file yet.

If you have it, you will hear it. Even with a loud exhaust you can still hear this resonance in the 4kish range.

probably drowned out by the turbo jet noises. seriously though i think i just haven't been listening for it. i haven't noticed it in any of the cars i've tuned. i'll keep an ear out for it next time.

What makes you think you are going to get better answers than those provided clarifying that this is a new Cam actuator technology and the noises are derived from that?

Arghx7 provided you with all the information you need, if you want a muddier answer stay tuned people will continue to theorize about completely unrelated stuff for several more pages. I have also made several posts stating that it is the cam actuators when asked to advance or retard quickly. Which of these "TUNERS" would you like to spoon feed you your answer and with what flavor jelly.

Tuners aren't always engineers, and don't necessarily need to understand the specific inner-workings of every new technology to debut on a given motor, only how to address it from behind a keyboard. There are lots of people that have been aware of the noise, sorted the cause and provided you the answers, if you pay attention you can tell which ones know what they speak of and which ones are "tuners" with preconceived explanations that were way off base.

you might not need to change the cam angle as quickly with a turbo as you aren't suffering from torque deficiency in the midrange.

i don't notice it in any of the NA cars i've tuned either.. i'll have to look at the cam maps from some of my tunes and see if there is any quick advance going on in there.

Take a look at Shiv's OFS EL maps. Stage 1 or 2. IIRC, I observed 25° of exhaust advance (maybe it was 35°) in just 200RPM

Edit: It is 25°

I use the OFT stage 1 map and can 100% confirm this noise. It is very loud and pronounced, right at 4k for me.

Sounds like engine noise changing. Probably because the engine is changing stuff. Sounded close enough to VTEC that I didn't think twice about it.

Perrin modified my flash and dropped the VVT tuning and reverted it to less agressive map. Reflashed and it's dead silent. Will post up log and then dyno after.

Whatever power was lost cant be much. Feels about as smooth, and more important does not sound like I need a valve adjustment. I know Jeff spent plenty of time tuning vvt for power and vishnu but...

Lets see what the dyno says.

Can we get back to back pulls of each map with audio and graphs?
