18x8.5 or 18x9.5? (~ +33-38) Streetable?
Hey guys, I just picked up a 2018 BRZ PP, and I'm looking at aftermarket wheels to get a more aggressive appearance.
I already know 18x9.5 +38 is a common size and I was also looking at some 18x8.5s as well, with the goal of getting close to "perfect" fitment with the fender edge (no poke no tuck). I'll be running either springs or coils with the setup. My question is will 9.5s make the car feel noticeably more sluggish over 8.5s? I love the concave look wider wheels can give but I don't necessarily want to compromise drivability completely. And secondly, if you have any recommendations for 8.5 wide wheels with some nice concave, leave them here if you could! I'm a fan of Rays, Advans, Works, etc but reps are cool too (haven't decided on budget yet). Thanks! |

I'm running Speedwell Fully Forged RS-R in 18x9.5 +40 (18.9lbs each) on my FRS, on Meister Zeta CRD coilovers, and had 255/35/18 Accelera tires (Also have tried PSS and Pirelli P-Zero Neros). I've put around 12k miles on this wheel setup.
To answer your question, the car is still very driveable with 18x9.5 wheels and I don't have any fitment/rubbing issues. I don't think that they feel sluggish at all even with the stock tune and a few bolt-ons, and the car is still extremely fun to drive every day. Maybe I'm just used to how slow the car is, LOL. They also have a nice concave face and will fit with your BBK, with a lot of room left to go even bigger. The only issue with these wheels is that they don't clear the factory struts, so you would need coilovers to run them. In my opinion, these are a great option for a daily driven 86 and for the price, you can't go wrong! -Sam |

Just put on some Cosmis R1 18x9.5 +35 with 225/40; no rubbing no issues and it does not feel sluggish. I did not have to do anything to the fender or adjust the alignment. When it comes time to replace the tires I'm going to with a 245/35 and I have all the confidence in the world there will be no problems then.

Thanks guys, I ended up ordering Rays Gram Lights 57DRs in Mag Blue 18x9.5 +38.
I think I'm going to go with 245/35 tires and also and eventually order some Flex Zs or RS*R Black-I coils. |
