GT86 - inferno orange

Hi all,

my name is Lars and I´m from Germany.

I own a GT86 since winter 2013, colored in inferno orange.

So because you have no TÜV (our Federal Institution for Traffic Security) in the US (you don´t have one, or?), I want to a have a look what´s then be possible...

Cheers, Lars

We have the Department of Transportation that makes rules regarding cars and what can and can't be done to them. Most people follow the rules set but some get more extreme and take a risk, but everyone has an idea for their car, you can do whatever you want to it!

Welcome to the forum!

My guess is that the DOT branch that would parallel traffic security would be the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Welcome aboard.

Most states don't have vehicle inspection, and laws for modifications usually only cover tint and exhaust (noise) if anything.
When I was stationed in Germany, all of my friends complained about TUV and how they couldn't modify their vehicles much, but the US is a lot more lenient.

In Canada we have a Safety and an e-test. Safety is only done when a vehicle is sold. An e-test (emissions) is done every 2 years, once the car is 7 years old.

The safety is pretty basic. The vehicle needs to brake, the exhaust needs to be there, stuff like that. After market stuff doesn't really matter, which is great. So we can tint the windows, install after market exhausts etc. Even cops are easy going and leave you alone as long as you adhere to the basic traffic rules, at least where I live.
It is unbelievable how lenient vehicle inspections actually are here in Ontario, Nothing like your TüV. Especially considering that we live in the rust belt. It is shocking to see the condition of some cars.
