50k maintenance

Hey guys,

New owner of a used FRS here. Was wondering what ya'll would recommend for a 50k service interval?

The only thing done on the car has been oil/filter changes every 7k km or so. As well as a engine air filter and cabin air filter replacement

I'm planning on doing tranny fluid, diff fluid, and maybe breaks.. but i'm not sure if I should go to the dealership to get this done or a good shop in the GTA.

What are your thoughts?

if you have any kind of experience doing oil changes, doing a transmission and diff fluid change is no Different IMO

do some researching, there are some nice DIY articles on here about doing it. save yourself the money of having someone else do it, but that's just me

going forward, look in your service manual, i think the only thing they recommend at 50K KM (30K miles) is for the brake fluid to be changed, dont think that is something that HAS to be done

change out your In Cabin Filter, the Dealers never changed mine out when i went for my service, mine was FILTHY!!

Suggestions would be...

Brake Fluid Flush
Alignment Check - Perform alignment if out of spec
Tire Balance - if not done
Tire Rotation - if not done

Trans and Diff can probably last another 10k - Change at 60k

Things to check would be....
Brake Pads and Rotor
Struts for leaks
Belts for cracking

Coolant isn't due for a long time so I wouldn't touch that.

Thanks guys. completely forgot about alignment!!!

tires are balanced.. i can do my own oil changes. But I don't have the tools to swap trans and diff so I need a shop to do it. I think i'm gonna go with Motul 300 for both.

Brake fluid is ridiculously difficult by my standards, the service manual says 48,000 it should be Replaced, so i'll guess i'll get a shop to do that at the same time as well. Hopefully I can get OEM brake fluid? I tried to get OEM tranny fluid from Toyota and they said they don't sell it.

the only tools you need to do the trans/diff is a 10mm hex key, some jack stands, 2 new crush washers,

if you are going with Motul 300, it has a filler on the bottle so you dont need a pump or anything

Check out the online BRZ shop manual listed in the sticky section of this thread for the instructions.

Again... good luck.
Go find the thread on how to DIY its a good read.

I replaced my tranny and diff fluid with motul gear 300 yesterday

The shifts feel pretty much the same as they did with the OEM fluid.. I was expecting a big difference... also there weren't that many shavings on the magnetic plug

next up is brake fluid

@RickyRacer

By 50k miles I had tranny/diff fluid change, coolant flush, brake fluid change, engine cleaned at dealership (seafoam?).

Next things on the list are spark plugs, oem clutch replacement, and brakes.

nice man!

Is coolant flush really necessary though? I thought the coolant in this car can go for 8 years or 200k or something like that

Brake fluid is a time-related issue-- should be changed every 2 yrs regardless of mileage because it absorbs water from the atmosphere and will rust out your brakes from the inside.

QUESTION-- how many miles on your car or how long since it had been changed was it filthy? The one in my car is made of grey material so hard to tell if its dirty or not.
