I'd imagine even the guys that initially messed up engines on the J02 recall got good at them after the second go around. You see the guy in the bay next to you learn a trick or two and pass it around the shop, you get the process down.

[QUOTE=Tcoat;3550255]Based on this I can't imagine 0w-30 being a bad choice especially if you're gonna be running the car on a hot track day.

I'd be calling Toyota corporate on it. See if you could get some good faith help. Saying the wrong viscosity is BS, and the 5th gear 129mph when you have video and GPS evidence disputing it.

It is more than likely that it is corporate Toyota that declined the warranty with the info they received. Can't see them reversing that with the nature of the damage and the wrong filter being used. The video doesn't disprove a thing since it is just a segment of the whole day and the report doesn't even say WHEN they claimed it happened. They are only going to go so far with goodwill and unfortunately the shopping list in this case likely pushes that boundary hard.

"However, it must be replaced with SAE 0W-20 at the next oil change." Do you think they are saying that it must be replaced with 0w20 to keep the "for good fuel economy and good starting in cold weather" status that's stated prior? Or that it must be replaced regardless? Quote:
Translation: 1: The amount of engine oil is a guideline when replacing. To check the oil level, place the car on a level surface, stop the engine before starting the engine or after warming up the engine, and wait at least 5 minutes before checking the oil level with a level gauge. To check the oil level, look at both sides of the level gauge and check the lower side of the oil level. 2: ECO 0W-20 is the most fuel-saving oil among the designated brands in the table above. |

Car hit 129mph at 8300rpm on 5th gear ???
I think this is the nail in the coffin regardless of what oil or filter was used. Looking at the gear ratio chart posted, not saying this is what happened, it's probable that you are at the top of 5th and going to grab 6th but money shifted into 4th instead. I wonder if there is a delay in the ECU registering gear selection hence the gear read out was 5th instead. Rather than lawyering up, i will request to review the "black box" data that was retrieved and challenge that. However, i feel this is a extremely slim chance.

Given that the gear indicator doesn't change until a beat after you actually release the clutch, I always assumed that there is in fact no gear selection sensor, just an ecu deduction based upon engine rpm vs. wheel rpm.

Oh that is interesting. I just assumed there is an actual gear selector sensor. Can anyone confirm?
