What is happening when you say your axles are blown?

Not sure why you have more issues. I've done 20 track days no problem on similar setup. I've had both inner boots leak, but I never ran them dry. Replaced the boots & greased with OEM kit.

When the first one "went", I thought that I had a loose wheel. There was a tear in the inner boot and some of the bearings had fallen out. With the second one, I thought that I smelled some grease and then saw a puff of smoke behind my car. The boot retainer had come off. I waited a half hour for things to cool off but the cup was still too hot to touch for more than a few seconds. I put a hose clamp on it and drove 65 mph for 2.5 hours to get home.

Earlier this season, I had some slight leakage after 4 track days with my current suspension set up, so I decided to replace the boots and repack the CV joints and now this. I'm trying to figure out what I probably did wrong. The reassembly seems pretty straight forward. The main thing that I question is the amount of grease that I used.

Should the cup be fully filled? Should I have packed the boot too?

For one, it's best to use OEM clamps if you're using factory boots. They're pretty easy to use and you know they're designed to seal it properly

Second, the kit comes with a bottle of grease. I just emptied the entire contents into the boot. It should fill up half the boot or more. I don't remember what the exact weight/volume of the grease was, but you can tell roughly by the scale of the bottle in this image. We try to empty as much of that plastic bottle as possible.

I used new OEM boots and reused the clamps. When you used the grease, can you give me an idea as to how full the cup was and vs how full the boot was. Was 1/2 the bottle in the cup and the other 1/2 in to boot?

I'm asking for the next, cheapa$$, DIY'er who will try the same thing that I did. You know they're out there.

Each cv boot kit comes with one bottle of grease. All of that grease is for that one joint: you pour the entire thing in. The amount doesn't really matter if have the kit because the grease is properly portioned.

I don't remember how much it was exactly, but it was a good amount. Probably 50% of a boot full. You can compare the relative size of the bottle to the boot in the picture.

It doesn't matter where you put it where because all the parts that the boot covers swims in the same ocean of grease.
