Dealer service to maintain warranty?

Hi all! I'm reaching 1000 miles, so want to get an oil change done. (By the way, I love my BRZ!). Is it required for oil changes to be done at the dealer to maintain the factory warranty, or can I go to my trusted local mechanic? Would appreciate if anybody could point me to where this info is written down specifically (either confirming or denying) for some piece of mind. Thanks! This forum is great!

Not at all necessary. You can change it yourself and retain the factory warranty - it was purchased with the car.

Do they give you the first one free like they used to?

If so, I'd take advantage of that since you're just trying to get any break-in materials in the oil out. Then at 4-5k get an oil change with the oil and mechanic you prefer.

Def check the dealership included service out. My dealer has the first 4 scheduled services free. But its 150 mile round trip for me also no weekend appointments. Only Mon-Fri. No way i'm using 1/2 a Vac day for an oil change.

I got this with my dealer too, who is 5 hours away. I specifically asked them if I could use it at home, and they said it was good at any subaru dealer.

Also, I asked if my local dealer would change the transmission fluid to Motul 300v (after suggestions on here) along with my break in oil change. They said they wouldnt do it as it would void my powertrain warranty. I dont have the ability to do it myself since I moved into an apartment. Any thoughts on this?

I originally tried another big chain lube place and they said they didnt have any instructions/diagrams for the 2022 model yet for transmission fluid so they also wouldnt do the service.

yeah, the vehicle is warrantied with the included and tested components/fluids. altering which fluid/components are installed void the warranty on that part, as those the alterations are no longer tested/certified to work for any length of time, or not effect other parts negatively.

now, this should only void your transmission warranty, and if you have valve cover issues, they should still be covered under the magnuson moss act, as the alterations were to the transmission, which would not effect motor leaking issues, but YMMV applies.

this guy tried taking that act further than anyone i've ever heard of, and would've lost a ton of money in legal fees had he kept going:

I don't think this is true. Even according to the owners manual it says if SUBARU oil isn't available, use one of these alternatives.

IE, use a 0w-20 Synthetic, that meets API SERVICE SN PLUS or ILSAC GF-5 standard.

It essentially says the same thing, "Use oils that meet these standards."

For manual transmission:

Manual Transmission Gear Oil LV 75W*3
API GL-4 SAE 75W*4

For rear differential:
Differential Gear Oil LX*3
Other gear oil that meets API GL-5 SAE 75W-85 or GL-5 SAE 75W-90 specifications*5

That is the point. They have to meet those standards. Using anything but ones that meet those standards is the issue. Doesn't have to be a certain brand.

I mean, I thought that would be self-evident.

That if the manual calls for synthetic 0w-20 GL-5 oil, that putting in straight 50 weight GF-4 would not meet the standard.

I should know better based on what I see in the Facebook groups.
