I'm one of the few along with you. And if this car starts eclipsing 3k pounds that's just unacceptable (to me).

Rumor has it there will be a base car with an NA 2.4 (coming in at under 220hp) and a higher end model with the turbo 2.4 that could see as high as 260. Nothing verifiable right now, or course, but the base and higher end model setup seems reasonable.

What I don't think they'll do is have the turbo car putting out that much power, because it'd be stepping on WRX and 4 cylinder Supra toes at that point. I think they'll tune it down somewhere under 240 so people still have a reason to spend more on the base Supra and the WRX. Good to know the potential is there, and probably easily freed up, but I really don't think they'd offer the car with power like that out of the box.

And if they only give people that sub-220 NA car and nothing else, while I won't be bothered by it, I think that may doom the car to not seeing another generation.

I have a feeling that we're probably in the silent majority that prefers a NA vs Turbo in this type of car. What we want is a driving experience not a dragster since if you want a pocket rocket, there's plenty of them out there but they lack the driving experience that the twins & MX-5 offer.

If the Gen2 twins weren't coming out at the time that coincides with my purchase plans, I would have been just as likely to purchase a Gen1 in it's current configuration as to what will be revealed on 11/18. I want a NA, RWD, fun to drive vehicle that won't break the bank.

As for not seeing another generation of the twins in the future, who knows what we'll be driving 7-8 years down the road after the regulatory agencies get through dictating what powers our vehicles.

I second this as well. I enjoy the relative "low" power output and lightweight layout and would be fine with sensible refinements to an already good formula. This car will likely be the last of its kind given the coming electrification standards, so I'm definitely going to be interested with what Subaru/Toyota have done with the car.

That said, I get the sense that that's unrealistic because of increasingly tricky emissions standards (that almost never apply to trucks/SUVs but sports cars bare the brunt of). 240hp on a NA with the car's current weight would be a dream but we'll see what they do.

17th is the press event. 18th at 6am PST is for everyone else, so Wednesday.

The press gets to see it first tomorow, then they tell everyone about it (Details, thoughts, personal opinions) on wednesday.

In case I caused any confusion, I was saying that they would probably set the turbo version of the 2.4 around or under that power to keep it from creeping in on the WRX and Supra territory.

I can't see them pulling 240 out of the car NA and keeping the EPA happy, but who knows, man...people were getting a lot more than expected out of the 2.0 with E85 tunes...

I understood your point. In all likelihood, it'll be the purported 217bhp - which while not great, should come with a healthier amount of torque. The turbo would be interesting - we'll see if it happens.

I feel like not making a hotted up STi and GR model for each brand is going to shoot the companies in the foot. People will buy them just to have powaaaa...and then proceed to drive them into curbs and blow engines because they had to just give it that one more psi of boost, while Toyota and FHI run off with their money like the Hamburglar.
