I find it slightly interesting that the author does not spend any time focusing on supercharging and nearly dismisses it saying that nitrous would even be a better solution when in actuality HKS already has the first actual production forced induction kit in development and testing and not even a turbo kit in sight from anyone else....

It's a lot of speculation and guessing without much actual data to go on. Like the theory that the 2.0-liter n/a would be able to take 10psi of boost on a 12:1 compression motor, because the low compression turbo motors can take 20psi. Reality is that 5-6 psi is the max the motor will probably run, and that's based on our actual experience of turbocharging n/a boxer motors with 10:1 compression over the last 10 years (and n/a motors of various types over the last 38+ years).

As for HKS, it's more like they are the first to be actively promoting their kit, not that they are the only ones working on production FI for the car.

Not to throw it back in your face, but since this is the first DI boxer, what knowledge base & experience do you have with boosted DI engines?

I highly doubt this motor can handle anything over 300whp without building the internals. It might even be less than that. That's just how subaru builds motors; weak.

Any "tuning guide" for these cars at this point is just rambling.

I'm glad the early adopters will be dynoing the cars a lot, but I can see repeats of my old Honda days when 10-20 people would send their aftermarket header/intake/exhaust/etc to a trusted person, a car would be dyno'd back to back (with as little time in between runs as possible) and then the results posted.. I hope that happens at least, it provided real data that could be easily compared.

That's the point - we've got more experience than most other companies with aftermarket turbocharging on all varieties of motors, including diesels. So the author claiming 10psi on that motor without any evidence is just going to confuse people. By that theory, the 10:1 motors should have been able to take 12-14psi, and that just isn't so.

DI isn't a magical pill that suddenly makes aluminum blocks turn to iron, it's a injection system that's in the cylinder instead of the intake for more precise fueling and cooler combustion chamber temperatures. Which they've already taken advantage of to raise the compression ratio. So how much PSI the system can take may even be less than past n/a kits - there's no way to know without *doing* it.

Why more companies are not showing off their development may be for the simple reason that they don't want to show other companies how to do it.

Wonder if anyone will come out with an EFR kit, that would porbably be the best way to deal with space issues and keep it simple with great response. I think the only way i would go turbo over SC at this point (just me personaly) is if there was an EFR setup. Any hit up Fullrace yet??? they just made a magical efr kit for the ms6.
