And no actually, I'm here because the topic is awesome, but I'm keeping a keen eye on a number of y'all too haha. Keep it civil and it's all good!

Now back to 3S stuff!
When looking for the weight I saw a rough spec list of that NA motor. Guy is in Melbourne, but I can't find active posts by him since ~2012. Goes by Celica RA45.

Pulled from another forum:

Quote:
new beams head with quads of 50mm and 2 stage etc new cams which are 14.65mm of lift and 263 duration at 50 thou 1.5 teeth of vvti .std beams cams have 3 teeth of cam pulleys of movement
new exhaust 13.8 mm of lift 259 duration at 50 thou 1.5 teeth of vvti
redesigned head changed port .valves and new different quad throttles ,end result picked up power from 4000 right through to 9000
also torque has increased as well ,torque now starts to drop off after 8000 earlier head torque had dropped from 7000
Some translation and details from other posts: 50mm ITBs, 2 stage fuel injection with 400cc standard port injector and 1000cc 'showerhead' injector on the outside of the throttle butterflies. This concept is from bikes and its purpose is very similar to the D4-S. A simpler, less Eco friendly version. Motec ecu. 14.5:1 CR. Power to 9200rpm. I've seen claims of over 200kW to the wheels and 340 crank HP. I think on E85.

Wild.

So you're saying, change the pistons and head. That's most of the engine, and the majority of the R&D (combustion chamber, ports, valvetrain), why not just make a new shortblock too so you can use the engine for another 10 years?

@Dimman holy smokes, 14.5 CR and E85? That sounds like a beast. 340hp crank is a lot even for 9200rpm, I would have guessed around 300hp with E85. Maybe the 3S combustion chamber responds really well to those high comp pistons. But it begs the question, why not do that to a K20? You don't need a Motec, the stock ECU will be just fine with Hondata.

He is running 8 injectors in a sort of DIY D4-S. Maximize combustion quality.

The reason for the BEAMS was for swapping it into an old RWD Celica or Corolla from the sounds of it. Plus it's in Aus and there seems to be some patriotic duty for them to use domestically developed standalones in their projects. Maybe they're cheaper there?*

I've been looking for more info on the numbers but most is old and archived stuff. Guy's name is apparently Glen Booth and I've found references to him making swap parts to put BEAMS into AE86 Corollas, but not much activity past 2012.

* Note grammatically correct their/there/they're usage in close proximity. Do I get some kind of internet award for that?

Heh...

Some parts are cheaper on this side of the world, some are more expensive. Most guys here prefer to run standalones. They're just better for so many reasons. Especially for conversions.

My Link G4 in the ae86 cost me $1800NZD
My Motec in the gt86 cost me $3200NZD
My TRD 2way diff cost me $750NZD
My work meister wheels I got for $2400NZD

Anything made in Aus, NZ, or Japan, we get cheaper than the states. But anything you want from the states, you get raped in the ass, with conversion, shipping, import duty.
I just bought a perrin 3" rear muffler. Just the muffler. Cost $1800NZD by time it got to me.
My part shop max angle kit, it hasn't arrived yet, but it will be close to $3k NZD by time it lands.

So positives and negatives.

Anyway, beams stuff..
Here's a vid of my ae86 when the beams was first put in. Internally it was stock. Just had ITB's and a tune and it made 200whp.

Glenn is definitely still active on forums and such. I've seen him post only a few weeks ago on oldschool.co.nz

We will be selling swap kits once we have everything finalized.
Whatever came of this?

I'm interested since this is my favorite motor essentially and would like to know what it's up to!

It looks like it fits under the hood in the Dynosity swap as does the larger trans.
Being a 4AG fan I was watching the development of the 86 with baited breath.
And then they pull the rug out. A wha? A Subaru? A truly WTF moment for AE86 fans.
So now there's a F'n Subaru in the driveway where there should be a GT86 not a Scion.
But I digress, I suppose I'll just have to get the new Lexus and spare myself the swap abuse. But I am a repeat swap offender and will likely find myself back in swap prison by next fall.
Some pics of my 4AG AE86 drive train MGB GT I also Have a Porsche VW/914 with 4AG power.
What new Lexus is that?

I think it would of been cool to offer a 3S in the Toyota, and an FA in the Subaru so you could pick which was more relevant to the heritage, but I'm also an EJ fan....for some reason.

Any word on swap kits for this just yet? From what I've gathered the FA20, 3SGE, 1UZFE, and LSx engines all weigh about the same. With the LSx being the only one that current has a complete swap kit available. I'm displeased that it's this hard for a Toyota purist to not commit sacrilege while trying to go for a cost effective, straightforward swap on a daily driven car. That and the fact that you can get some serious power out these babies with some boost just nakes me want this swap kit to exist even more.

Anybody know a good 6SPD that'll bolt up to the beams engine or would an R154 with a rear differential swap out if the IS300 be more drivable?

Anybody think of going with a 2ZZ and stroker kit keeping it all engine?

And I doubt anyone is swapping this motor or any other motor on a daily driver, this is my toy car so if it has to sit a while for this reason or another, no big deal.

I'd like to do this swap to a daily driver lol that's why I'll wait for that kit
