What's under the seat heater switch area??

Got my FR-S on Monday and already know that the center console needs the armrest to hide the stuff I need to store and a better cup holder solution. Leaving the center console cover open to use the cup holder isn't going to work well for me. So what about that area just forward of there where the seat heater switches could go. Any chance the area below is open to say maybe the same depth as the console storage area?? anyone have a picture inside that area???

If there is room,,, I'm thinking a single cup holder shoved all the way to the right and maybe a cell phone holder to fill out the space.

theres a bit of room under there.

Search around, theres a thread of a guy who re-did the interior/center console and added something very similar to what you're asking

It's not a great place for a cup holder due to being in the way of your arm when shifting.
I had an Acura that had its cup holder in the exact spot you want it in... anything taller than a can would get in the way

Been searching most of the day,,,, can't seem to find anything as of yet. I did see some instruction for removing the console and it does look like there is some room.

Certainly not the best location. But the drive in today and having to reach back was a PTIA. I may mock something up to stick on top of the console and drive it a day to see. I need my large coffee cup for my 1:20 drive every morning!

Picked this up for $50 at lunch today. First need to make an armrest,,, digging the CF one Doggy did although I worry about scratching. Then on to the cup holder

Popped the shifter boot and surround. Looks to be about 4" or so under that area which is perfect. That'll allow the travel mug to sit down in there pretty low. The cup I use everyday is about 6 1/2" tall so maybe 3" would be above.

I mocked up a 3 1/4" plastic tube to see how it'd fit and left about 3" above and I think it'll work fine. My arm above it seems OK and if you had a larger cup in I still think it'd be fine.

I ordered aluminum tube 3" od .125 thick so 2.75" ID, and 3.5" OD .250 thick, 1/4" plate and rectangle tube today. The plan is to use the 3" tube as the holder and I'll make a surround out of the 3.5" tube to hide the cuts in the console. I'll try to add the phone holder although not sure I'll even use it.

Also,, going to skip making an armrest and just get the OEM flip top one.

Got my metal yesterday,,, enough to make a couple which is good. The smaller 3" ID tube which is better for the holder space wise is only wide enough for a can of soda. I'd need to find a new travel mug for this to work. The 3 1/2 ID is better but will take up the whole console area. I'll mock up both with the top plate and see what I like.

Also ordered my flip top arm rest from the UK. It's shipped already but lets see how long it takes to get here

Zombie thread back from the dead. 4 years later finally got around to doing this. Ended up making the holder out of fiberglass. It's 3.25" ID and almost 5" deep. It also has an aluminum cup holder insert which should help with scratching. With as deep as it is,, don't think it'll be an issue for the shifter, we'll see. I still need to paint and caulk it in place.

Back from the dead and looking good! How did the armrest install go? I couldn't get the stupid rubber grommets to grip right (I think my drill has a wobble) so I ended up cutting them up, using them as spacers and using good old fashioned nuts and washers.

Funny,,, I lost all the hardware somewhere along the way. I ended up using plastic wall anchors instead. Seems to be OK,,, cars not driving yet so we'll see how they last.
