Oh god ... the worm of cans is out ...

02:54 - "This engine is weak against tuning. It is easily broken. In HotVersion, I have driven many cars, then found that this type of engine is weak as it tunes power up or exhaust system better"

What are those seatbelt guide things? Never seen that but it reminds me of BMW seatbelt delivery systems

It's like Ralph Nader and the Corvair, only different.

The video just felt like one big KW advertisement, no mention of his exhaust set up or driveline other than the coilovers.

He mentioned the exhaust twice. He said that he wants to stay legal (in Japan), so he has the Fujitsubo EPU with JASMA certification. Handling is the strongest point of this car, so suspension and tires is the area that you can play most. He changed the suspension already 3 times and he mentioned about different tire options too. Engine is not the strongest point, so you forget about going with individual throttle bodies, high lift cams, increasing engine displacement, forged pistons and so on. He said it is weak against tuning ...

The only thing that he doesn't mention that much and "hides" a bit is the SARD Torsen Type Racing. It was made available by Toyota in the 86 GRMN and old GR86 high spec car, but it is expensive to get it.

I believe that Tsuchiya will continue supporting the old platform and pushing Japanese tuners to introduce new parts in a similar fashion he did with his AE86. What do you guys think?

the only thing working against longevity of the modern 86's is the flimsy subie engine. Toyota made bulletproof inline 4's and 6's back in the day 4a, 3s, 2j GTE/GE series were all solid engines. The FA series while more efficient and economical, can't hold a candle durability wise to the engines from the Toyota sports car golden years.

As much as I bash the FA, it is actually pretty tough in NA form. If it wasn't for the lubrication issues I would stick with it. I will be running 8k rpm on stock valvetrain next year. We will really see how durable it is.

...........and as long as you don't compare it to a K series

The only thing flimsy about my engine is the TOB. Replaced it twice in 200,000 miles. That's it. No other problems at all.
What a POS!
