Tow Hook Bike Rack for Sale

I sold my FR-S and now have two tow hook extenders for a bike rack for sale. I had them machined by a local machinist. They have a groove specifically for a 1Up USA roof rack, but can be used with any roof rack. I'd like to get $200 obo. (I paid $350 between material and machining cost)

I made the groove everyone is referring to a little wider than the bracket to future proof them a little. It was only intended to limit the chance the rack could slide off while driving and give you an opportunity to hear the rattle and still catch it before it was too late. Metal on metal with vibration over a long drive could loosen. Brands like eYakima have a plastic coating over their bars which their brackets squish into. This wasn’t possible so I had to find another solution. Hope this helps other DIYers.

I still have the bars I would sell you for $200 plus shipping. I have some pictures at the top of this page of the thread.

Thanks to @that_guy for making these. I bought a set used from a member here. I didn't know what I had at the time, not until I found this thread. Originally the bars were used with Yakima mounts, but had to change it to a 1UP due to disc brakes. Thanks again!

It is a 1UP roof rack connected to the custom bar. I've put a collar on one side (need to buy another) for safety, but she's held in there pretty good.

uh, maybe more due to thru-axle?

my bb7's have never gotten in the way of my yakima mounts

I had a thru axle adapter and the whole mount would rotate, hitting the fork and/or caliper (if rotated the other direction) to the mount. For example, here is a photo of the set up. It's fine when I use the mount on my old road bike.

I also have a 1up Equip-D 2" hitch mount on another vehicle and this set up (thanks to these bars) are far more stable and robust. Due to the weight distribution set to the sides instead of the center.

Good call on the little collar. That's why I had the little ridge machined into them towards the end. The lip would prove as a little stopper to limit the chance of the 1Up bracket sliding off. The collar is extra protection. Alternatively you could put a bolt and nut through the end hole if you wanted.

Glad to see these all continue to have a life season to season and members are able to get out and go for a rip on their 2 wheels without restriction.

Back when I bought my BRZ in 2018 I did something like this with threaded rod. The tow hook uses m16x1.5, so I bought a 36" piece and cut it in half. I had some 3/4 square aluminum tube laying around that slipped right over it so I used some nuts to tighten the rods into the tow hook holes and to hold the square aluminum sleeves on, then clamped my thule sidearm on. I did run a strap through to one of the baby seat anchors to stop the flex with a heavy bike, but that wasn't strictly necessary. The thule sidearm isn't ideal for this, a 1up bike attachment would spread the bending load (from the wind) more evenly to both bars.
I'm sure anyone who spent hundreds of dollars on custom machined bars will say this setup could never be strong enough, but I used it regularly for a few years and it never let me down.

I reached out to a local machine shop. They are willing to run a batch for us if there are enough pre-orders. Who's in?
