Meaty Tire Thread

Hey guys, realise this isn’t the correct thread for this, but I tried the ‘will they fit’ thread with no luck. I thought you guys will be the experts on fitment so I’d give it a shot.

I’m planning to fit the following wheels. I’ve kept it reasonably conservative (for a change) and decided to stick with 8.5s to keep legal / weight down and I like the idea of a square tyre with no stretch.

Front: 18x8.5 ET44
Rear: 18x8.5 ET37

I’ll fit coilovers soon, and from my reading shouldn’t have any issues with stock struts in the interim.

My question: if I decided to run 255/35s instead of 245/35, would I have any clearance issues up front before the coilovers arrive (or after)?

EDIT: I’ve found a few examples on fitment industries with no scrub (both on lowering springs and coils). Think I’ll be ok with the 255s.

Hello! In most cases if running a square fitment, it's nice to have the same offset front and back to allow for front to rear tire rotation to extend tread life. The fitment mentioned likely will work just fine. Most aftermarket coil-overs tend to increase clearance compared to stock as well.

An 18x8.5" ET44 setup front and rear should be a direct with with 245/35-18 or 255/35-18 size tire. If you went with an 18x8.5" ET37 fitment all around, There's may be a need for some additional negative camber with a 255 width tire to prevent rubbing rubbing on the fender, but it would be close.

A 245/35-18 tire would be the better choice imo as an 8.5" wide wheel will be lacking in terms of sidewall support for a 255 tire.

Thanks heaps for the response Ian, greatly appreciated. I decided to modify the offset ever so slightly front to rear as I really didn’t like the poke at the front / flush at the back or flush at the front and inset at the back look these cars have. I’ve been extremely conservative as I usually go all out to fit the widest wheels I can (within reason). I did consider staggered, but really didn’t want to go down that route.

Yes, 245 was my aim as it’s near identical to stock in rolling diameter, there just seems to be way more tyre choice (at a better price) in 255 weirdly. I also really love the square sidewall on the 255/8.5” examples I have found.

I did a fair bit of research and went with 18x9+42. I ordered 255/35 Zestinos coming soon. I`m confident.

You could run a 7 mm spacer to make up the difference between +44 and +37 so you can use the same wheels on all 4 corners. I haven't seen a lot of discussion on it here but it seems that even with 3 mm spacers people suggest extended lugs. (suggested minimum engagement is 12 mm, roughly 9.5 turns.)

thats not exactly true, people have run 3-5mm spacers with OEM length studs and its not been an issue. Anything higher, yes that will require longer studs.

"not been issue" as in they have luckied driven long w/o lugnuts braking off. Still, it's good practice to have sufficient number of threads used for extra ensurance, hence it's normal to suggest not to use too thick of slip-on spacers on non-extended studs.

Thanks mate. Spacers aren’t legal here and it costs no more to adjust the offset (wheels are custom fitment)

Even 5mm is sketchy. 3mm is fine. I have run this at plenty of track events and still have stock lugs.
