MY15 WRX/ Legacy GT Brakes fitted!

Hi,

Anyone running this brake setup on our cars, I hears these are the same brakes as a legacy GT?

Would like some reviews.

R

Bob

I believe the GTS and BRZ models already run the exact same brakes on the WRX. GT spec models run slightly smaller brakes.

MY15 (Late 2015+) is larger than GTS and BRZ's. 316mm disc

Ah you're right....just did some digging around. Assuming the caliper/bracket mounting holes are the same (probably are seeing most Subaru's are the same), you'll need to get the rotors dual drilled as the MY15+ WRX have gone to 5x114 instead of 5x100

I'd suggest reading (or calculating for yourself) what these calipers do to brake bias before swapping them... bigger != better if it moves the bias too far the wrong way, and you could end up making stopping distances worse than stock.

Bobster: also if you are going for aftermarket disks for track use .. i suggest to not use drilled discs. At most, slotted, but even better - blanks, for most reliability. Drilled belong to showcars, not where brake reliability matters - so even more so on track.

Bias change on these is very little, can easily be fixed with pads

Stock is 70% towards the front

MY15's front changed to 73%

MY15's front stock pad and aftermarket rears brings it back to 70%

I mean I'm getting blanks that are multi drilled as in 5x144.3 and 5x100

Bobster: question being how much is too much or little enough? One may "judge" difference by subjective feel of numbers, as to how much 3% or 6% or whatever is in percents of anything, but right way would be actual extensive testing on impact on braking path length, how much it interferes with electronic nannies, and as some had mentioned - with unexpected for mileage changes to brake wearables life.
Also if you throw on car a bit less normal road situation, eg. lack of grip on gravel or snowed/iced roads, it may further accentuate that "very small difference". I certainly would want even less chance of braking safety compromises on public roads, where it's not just me that is affected.
As i don't haven't performed extensive tests, i prefer siding on this question a bit more with JRitt and trust his enormous expertise in brakes field onto how big bias skew is big enough and within what limits it's acceptable. Even more so that he has shown on several occasions that his goal is not to push their products sale no matter what, on contrary, when he thinks that it's not best choice, he clearly says so (for example not advising their BBKs for winter driving in salt environment due lack of dustboots & two piece disks) and suggests products of others.

Staggering pads to cover up bad bias is a band aid. The last thing you want to do is shift the bias forward. I'd pass on them.

Everything was fitted on the weekend, DBA 4000 Slotted with stock MY16 WRX pads and Calipers. Having a little fun I noticed the brake are way more responsive than before, rear end is well behaved. I find I am reaching the limits of the 215/45/17 RE003's more often now. Brake feel is exactly the same, stock line suck and goodridge lines will be installed soon.
