I suspect it's a bit more complicated. The Times ran an article this morning looking at folks in Missouri who are disguising themselves to get vaccinated so they won't face retribution from their social group for having gotten the vaccination. It has be come a perverse point of pride, a way of "owning" their political opponents, and of pointedly NOT doing what in their minds they're being told to do. It's all quite juvenile, but the local social norms can be very powerful. Social desirability can have a very strong impact on peoples' behavior - leading them to do all manner of self (and other) destructive things. Now none of this precludes the "morons" explanation and in some pretty pathetic ways may reinforce it.

^^^^ I've come across deniers, I'm sure they won't get the jab but not come across anyone who is hiding that they've had the vaccine. Strange how people behave, how they respond when they experience the pressures from their peers.^^^^^

Nose still runny with the occasional but soft cough. No headache, fever, chills or any other worrisome symptoms. But I do have a lot of pressure between my eyes and my throat was pretty painful and sore this morning.

I was talking about the general events that led us to this point, not the vaccination point specifically

Because sometimes you withhold information from one group of friends and confide with others. People's social circles interlace so it's not unexpected.
