CX-50 has longitudinal engine and transmission layout, like a FR vehicle?

Looks like it is transverse . Not uncommon.

Proper FR layout:

But it's a boring SUV anyway. They should've made new mazda 6 with this layout. Or 3, that'd be even better.

I'm suggesting the target market likes boring.

CX-50 is more light off-road and larger than the CX-5

Strange. This picture of the engine bay looks transverse. You can see the alternator facing the passenger side.

I dont think thats the CX-50 engine bay.

I googled CX50 engine bay and a similar looking image shows up, which says its from a CX5 or CX9
(assuming the FR layout is the difference between CX5 and CX50)

edit:
finally found a pic of a CX50 engine bay
The alternator isnt where it is shown on your pic

Still looks transverse to me. Pretty sure that is the same engine and layout as my pic, look at the intake routing and positioning. Alt being in a different spot is possible depending on layout and option configuration. It could also be that the picture is just too low of an angle.

the cx50 is the same frame as the cx30, it's transverse.

70/90 is supposed to be longitudinal and rumors are the next 6 will be as well.

Guess that makes sense.
I was unable to find anything regarding the CX50 being RWD based layout.
All I read was that it was a little bit bigger and a bit more off-roadier than a CX5, and built on the same platform.

The CX60 that was just released not too long ago is RWD based i think and the CX70 is the one we're gonna get, which is going to be more or less the same as the CX60.

I probably confused that with the cx60. Damn it, they keep spawning these junk SUVs, cx3, cx30, cx4, cx5, cx50, cx60, cx70, cx90. Wtf, lol.

Its almost as bad as the BMW X line.....with the odd numbered cars being the SUV, the even numbered being the "coupe" version of that same SUV.

X1 is an SUV, X2 is a swoopier/sportier version of that same SUV...
X3 is a larger SUV, X4 is that SUV with the rear cargo at a slant for a more compromising "coupe" shape......

With Mazda seems like the single digit is the car-like CUV, the double digit is the same thing but more "rugged and off roady" looking.....

These manufacturers are just gonna find some hole to fit a redundant SUV in because it prints money...somehow.....
