My plan to measure the differences is to hook up an RTA and measure the frequencies at different rev speeds (eg. idle, 2k, 3k, etc) and compare the readings pre-install and post-install. From there we would be able to effectively determine if there was a reduction/increase in amplitude across frequencies.

Unfortunately I won't be able to install the new hangers just yet as we just started a new COVID-19 lockdown here where I'm from but I will get the readings once I'm able (though I have no idea when).

I'll be pairing these with a TRD catback that I'm picking up off somebody locally.

Currently on stock exhaust with gruppe-s header and overpipe.
Good call. The TRD exhaust has a bit of drone. This should knock this out

I purchased my hangers from RHDJapan. Shipping took about 2 days to California.

I am running stock header, stock front pipe, with the only modification being a quiet catback (Fujitsubo Authorize R).

I've installed the rear 2 hangers and have only driven a few miles so far but I've noticed a subtle difference in the cabin. There is less vibration/bass coming from the rear which is probably why I am able to hear the engine more clearly.

I have 3 more hangers to install the next time I get the rear of my car up. As of right now I would recommend the mod.

Just installed all 5 of the Subaru Genuine hangers from
Nengen and if I’m being honest I hardly notice any difference in the drone. Maybe a tiny bit but other than that pretty much nothing. It’s unfortunate, I guess the nature of my exhaust is that of a drony one and it’s going to come down to a less drony catback. Still trying to decide which has less drone, Tanabe single exit, or HKS V2 single. It’s really unfortunate but at least I got new hangers

Cool good to know - we had the car up in the air and ended up just l lol in all 5 at ounce, since our car is so lowered we have to use ramps, the scissor jack, a low profile deep jack, and jackstands.

Confused what exhaust you have but the Nvidia is drone city between 3-4 k. If you want to still fix any drone you have try to get a j pipe welded in, or a helmholtz resonator.

The hangers won’t fix drone, they’re to stop the mufflers from vibrating under load.

But that’s what causes the drone, all that vibration gets amplified through the cabin. Otherwise how would my drone have gotten fixed. The thread started because someone found a fix.

I have the Invidia N2 Catback with Tomei UEL headers. Even before the headers this exhaust seemed pretty drony when compared to the actual volume it produced on the outside so as you could imagine it only got worse. I know they are drone city so I’m wondering how the drone compares to something like the Tanabe Concept G catback or the HKS v2 single exit with the hemholtz resonator and the canister muffler design

Could be placebo or maybe it’s the particular exhaust you have working with the hangers to fix the drone but I can assure I have the Subaru genuine exhaust hangers from Nengen. I replaced all 5 hangers with the new ones, waited a whole night for them to dry up from the wd-40 and stay in place, and virtually no difference at all for me. Like I said maybe the Invidia N2 Catback is too drony and this might work for certain catbacks that either drone less or drone at a different frequency. Nobody knows if the Invidia N2 is considered a drony catback though because hardly anyone has them, they just get a rep because it’s Invidia and they made the N1 which is the droniest of them all. I have no other catbacks I can personally compare them to unfortunately so I have no say.

I think there’s a bit of difference when decelerating compared to before but nothing worth telling my neighbors about. It’s really minimal. This really sucks I’m just too unlucky

the N for invidia n series catbacks should stand for "noisy" lol although their q series are noisy things as well!
