Yep. If they matched perfectly then that was the code for the paint as you car now sits. In 3 years it could be different again.

Now if you are ordering touchup paint or such ya the only code you will have would be the manufacturer's so you would have to use it but the body shop is not restricted to just that code.

Here is the receipt of the repair. Paint code says ICES. Overall the color was spot on. There are some minor runs of clearcoat but paint guy says he can fix it. I was thinking of getting the vis ams style trunk this year so im okay with it. The one thing that bothers me at first was the paint code really. What if i have to paint the car again? Will it be a different paint code? Tcoat has some explanations about it. for now im happy with the outcome. Thank God i have the hot lava and not the pearls. Sorry for my bad english.

Now, back in the day, when I was painting cars, what we would do was to buy a quantity of the paint (according to the manufactures name (number) and then buy a smaller quantity of white paint. We would shade part of a fender and then we would mix in white paint until it looked about right in the shade and in the sunlight. NOPE, I didn't do lacquer or metal flake or even acrylic enamel . What the heck could expect for a $100 paint job (the paint was $35). Now, you can relax and go surfing ......... humfrz Last edited by humfrz; 02-12-2016 at 10:07 PM. |

If you order something like a spoiler then it is separated enough from the body that the stock/pre applied paint will look fine. It is when you do body panels that join to other ones that the difference between old and new paint would stand out if not matched properly.

So what's the problem? If you where to get a repair painted again they would use any paint code to blend it in.

ICES is not an actual paint code for any manufacturer. They probably just typed something to fill that field in.
