Wheels and Tyres for Rocket Bunny V1

Im really sorry if this is a repost but I needed a quick reply.
Im planning to go wide and my Wheels specs are as follows

Front 18x9.5 +15 on 245/45 [with 25mm wheel adapters]
Rear 18x10.5 +15 on 275/40 [with 25mm wheel adapters]

Would I experience any rub on these specs?

I don't think the fronts will rub. My buddy has 18x9+35 with a 235 (or maybe 245) tire and it fits a stock body frs. You'll probably be fine in the rears as well. If there is any RB that are local to you, ask if you can see there wheel/tire setup just to be sure

So you effectively have -10 front and -10 rear. Read below to see what was suggested. It looks like to me, you will need a 20mm spacer for the front and a 40-45 for the rear.

Also, if you google "ft86 rocket bunny wheel" it will pull up all the threads. I find it is easier to use than the forums search function.

Good luck!

Text below copied from the thread copied.

Front
Honestly a 9.5 width is the best upfront. You really need an effective offset of either -5 or 0
it all depends on tire size to prevent rubbing. a tire size such as 245 35 18, (with a 35 sidewall will be ok with a -5) however running a 225 40 18 (40 sidewall) will require at least a 0 offset.

My current setup is 18x9.5 with a Effective offset of 0 running a 225 40 18 tire.

Rear
you can run anything from a 9.5-11+ in the rear. The best offset for a 9.5 is a Effective offset -40
the rear is a bit harder to do math on but look at it this way; for every inch more than 9 it ads half an inch from the center (imagining the front)
so a 18x10.5 rear will require a Effective offset will require a -25mm-30mm offset to run a fat tire
a 9.5 requires a -40 offset but you need a slight stretch.

Tried it today and there's some rub on the front on the inside.
Not sure what I can do now.

Tried 235/40/18 and theres still not enough

Is it rubbing on the fender liner or on something else? Are you using spacers?

In the link you'll see where it touches
The part where its blue right next to the lowest rivet. So it brushes past the black fender and then touches that bit that sticks out

The specs of the wheel I tried are 18x9.5 +15 offset with a 25mm spacer and the tyre specs are 235/40/18

Looking at what you tried, and what other say works. Your spacer is to wide in the front. It should be a 15mm or 20mm. That extra width combined with the 40 series tires adds length on the outside arc (or radius) of the edge of your tire.

Get a smaller spacer and tire. The guy from the thread I quoted is running 0 offset (tire +spacer) and a 225/40 tire. 235/40 is 25.4" diameter stock diameter is 24.6". A 235/35 would be better , 24.5"

Thank you Leonardo.
Initially we tried with 245/45/18 and that hit on the front and the back Then the 235/40/18 and that in the rear
Im hoping I wouldn't have to change my 25mm adapters and make it work on 35's.

No problem! Cool, Yeah 245/45 is way to tall of a tire. That is 26.7" diameter. 2.1" inches bigger! A 245/35/18 is stock diameter.

The width of the spacer will effect the distance to the edge of the tire as you turn. So, if you don't want to get new spacers, I would try a 225/35 or 235/35 front tire.

Alternatively You can bash/cut/grind that extension down. Shouldn't hurt anything and I have read quite a few people doing that. I actually have plans to grind it down eventually as it rubs with my winter set-up.

I do have to mention I'm on stock suspension and I will be trying out a 245/35/18 on Sunday.
The place I'm getting it fit doesn't think it will fit and that a 9.5 is too wide for the front.

Its not, I run 10" wide in the front stock fender

They are probably thinking about a stock body FR-S. With the offset of your wheels (plus spacer) there is no way it will hit the stock strut or perch.

Guys run coilovers to be able to use 9.5" wide front wheels on stock body.

Your wheels are not the issue. I would get some camber bolts though, if you don't have them already. They are inexpensive. You can reuse the bolt you take out if the bottom hole in the upper hole to get a little bit more camber. Here is a a thread...

http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=70035

I hope that the tire diameter change will help. Also, I think that modifying the body, as suggested by DustinS, is an ok plan, if you decide to go that route.

Good luck! Keep us updated. Thanks!

Unfortunately as it turns out Im still getting some rub with the 245/35's
I might have to resort to grinding that bit down for now.
It definitely clears the struts by miles just before a full lock turn it rubs against the metal extrusion.
This build is turning out to be more challenging that I thought
