I pulled the trigger in 2016 on a brand new Hyperblue. It's been 5 years and 50k mi with no issues. Knock-on-wood.

My 2013 FR-S mfg date April 2012 had a leaky taillight. Also, a tiny oil drip on the exhaust, which I could easily have ignored, but fixed that myself.
Buy with confidence. Or, wait till 2nd model year and the car will be perfect, right? Every manufacturer needs to release every model in it's second model year, so they can be successful with the launch and not suffer the cursed first year. Cup is half full or empty? I have purchased several vehicles in their first years, Acura TSX, Accord V6, FR-S. Greater anxiety and worry for some I guess, depending on your personality.

HOLY NECRO THREAD BATMAN
But seriously, I'd think buying a first year second gen would be fairly safe. Same platform, and assuming we're getting the n/a fa24, a pretty similar motor, I'd be surprised if we saw any major kinks like what happened with all the first model year twins. |

^^ Still not sure what those kinks were? The taillight? It was just a bigger foam gasket needed. The cam plate seal leak? One drop of oil per day on the exhaust and your daily smells racecar lol. What can I say, it's a quirk that could almost be laughed at.

As long as they don't balloon MSRP on the 2021/22 GR86 to a ridiculous level, I'd like to to take delivery in the Spring/Summer 2021. |
