otherwise I don't really see a point, the gain in chassis control is very marginal with the common stuff.

but if I ever cheap out I would go with Bilsteins over Konis

maybe

the real point though is all of their tuning philosophies don't look at compression enough, in my opinion

I follow the ideas of "fat cat motorsports", the rest seem to cater more to the idea that we're all driving on smooth roads

What kind of wear are people getting out of their ZII's? I picked up a set in the 215/45-17 size in February and I am about through them. I would say 15 autocrosses max averaging 5 runs per so about 75 runs total. They MAY make it to 100 runs if I don't run them on the street at all from here on out.

So basically, 75-100 runs and <1000mi of street driving? Seems short.

(Total toe is .1 front and just under .2 rear and the tires are wearing very evenly)

Edit: Also, any idea why the 215/45-17 ZIIs are on closeout on Tirerack?

ZII is discontinued..anything left is going to be on closeout.

My rivals are completely bald after 75ish runs, lots of concrete. 6,000 street miles

I put my Rival's on at 2800 miles, 12 autocross's. Now have 12500 miles, 3/32 tread in the center, 4/32 to 5/32 on the outside. So they don't have a lot of longevity. It is a performance tire after all.
On another note, if the 2015 now has the STI wheel in 17x7/1/2, can it be backdated to the 2012/2013 models.

Update/backdate is only legal in SP.

Thanks guys, glad to know that it is not completely adnormal. Before I had an STC Civic where I could get 150+ runs just fine on a set, but that was lighter and the tire/wheels were wider.

I think I can flip my ZIIs and get maybe one or two more events plus Nationals out of them. I'd hate to buy a new set right before Nationals, mine are in their prime right now.

What?! Are they being replaced with ZIIIs or something? I really don't like the RS3s on these cars in stock form and I want to go to Nationals so I can't get the Rivals. Not sure what I'll do if I can't get ZIIs.

ZIIs still have large availability @DylanFRS Dunlop stopped building in February because of this.

ZII Star Spec will be available in Oct/Nov. If you haven't bought your Nats set, do it NOW. They will get very low by then.

I assume this refers to the limited edition 2015 cars? Has this been publicly confirmed anywhere?

so after 4 events on the recently installed strano bar, I think it's too thick

while the car is now ultra stable and confidence inspiring, especially at higher speeds, it seems to have no character in the tighter sections.

but I'm wondering whether to chalk that up to the bar, my 235 tires on oem wheels (such wide R1Rs do feel sluggish in really tight sections), or just driving style, maybe I need to throw the car more into such corners.

any thoughts?

I'm on 235/40-17's at typ 34F/30R psi and run zero toe in front, so YMMV, but it sounds like your wear is a bit high.

Set 1:
6/1/13 through 8/17/13
174 runs, 2700 'travel' miles plus local miles (commute is only ~20 mi/day)
well into the wear bars and no longer safe (imo) for rain
Set 2:
8/24/13-3/30/14
148 runs, 1010 'travel' miles plus local
changed near the tops of the wear bars due to upcoming Pro
Set 3:
4/26/14-?????
114 runs and counting, 2400 'travel' miles plus local

Here's an example from 'set 2' when I took them off - would've run them a bit longer if not for the Pro:

Thanks, I'll take some pictures of mine tonight. I am impressed with the shoulders on your given the lower pressure you run.
