RE-71R - Quieter alternatives?
Love the traction I got from my last set of RE71's but would trade in some of that for a quieter ride on my DD. Are there any other obvious options for a quieter ride on the stock rims? Wouldn't mind a little more comfort either.
Willing to give up a fair amount of traction as I'm planning to buy separate wheels/tires just for AutoX, but would like my DD tires to at least hold me over for a few fun events until that happens. |

I'd try MPS4 / MPS4S. Should wear better/be quieter/have good wet grip. Imho all qualities that matter in DD.

If you're going to have two sets of tires, you might also consider the Continental Extreme Contact Sport. It's 95% of the tire the Michelin is, but being far less expensive, it'd leave you with more budget for autox tires.

You won't find a tire in the same performance bracket as the RE71R that's 'nice' on the street.
Your best bet is to run dedicated autox wheels and tires. I'm a huge fan of S-04's and MPSS as a street tire, and RE71R's for 'kill mode'. If you're having traction issues with that class of tire, you need to confirm if you have a street car, or not. :P

idk maybe RE11 or Falken's? Most people are suggesting Max Performance tires which should be more than enough grip for street and casual autox/hpde, it's why I bought MPSS which are decent and my next set of DD tires will be of a similar category ~300TW MP or I've heard good things about the Firestone Indy 500's https://www.tirerack.com/tires/surve...ay.jsp?type=MP Last edited by strat61caster; 04-10-2018 at 11:52 AM. |

None of the tires in that class are quiet, it's just something you live with if you want that level of grip. Nothing in the next class down can touch the re71 in that respect, so you choose whether you want something streetable and 'decent' at autoX or track like a PSS or something, or if you want as much grip as possible.
You can't really have both. |

Just to reiterate - OP says he plans to run 2 SETS of tires - one for autox, and one for street. The suggestions above for street tires are based on this, and I assume OP plans to continue running RE-71R for autox.

I'm pretty much in the same boat. I have a track set and a street set. For the first time in my life (I'm 42), I've intentionally chosen to prioritize comfort (noise and feel) in street tires with this car. I still have high performance summer tires, but nothing like RE71s. I don't measure the time it takes to go from home to the gym in hundreths of a second, so I'm OK giving up a little performance. Especially knowing I'll save money and be more comfortable at the same time, while still having a lot of fun.
Regardless, there's a lot of good info in this thread already. In short, I wouldn't bother with anything in the same class as the RE71s for the street. |

For what it's worth, my Maxxis Victra VR-1 autocross tires are way quieter than my daily pilot super sports.
I used to have Hankook Ventus V12 that were pretty quiet.

Wierd I run re71r on my Supra and I thought they were really quiet. Maybe it gets worse as they wear?

Off topic, but related to RE-71R... Are these things cheap everywhere? Because I can get these at $140ish CAD per tire, in stock size, where everything else is almost $200 per..

Now calculate in price how many sets of RE71R you'll wear down per set of tires of more reasonable threadwear for same mileage ..
