Pancreatic Cancer is a bitch. I have lost two very close friends to it in the last 30 years, one very quickly, like yours, and one that had the slower growth version they thought they could cure, and he went into remission, but it came back with a vengeance.

In the end though, I can't dispute what you are saying other than to say it's hard for a family to have a car for every scenario so you have to go for the one that best fits all of them.

I lost a dear friend to the slow version a couple years ago. Mrs. U. and I were his and his wife's closest companions down to the last evening. The call came as soon as we got home. Remember the drive back like it was yesterday. That's just how it is with traumatic loss.

Our friends live on in our hearts. RIP
