This explains why my car has a weird torque dip in the rpm band. Definitely going to the GM to request a whole new long lock assembly, and a steam cleaning for the inconveniences pushed upon me. I also want some Twizzlers

I was actually thinking about the same thing. Maybe the spring fails and takes the rocker with it and then itís assumed the rocker was at fault. It will be interesting to see more details on this potential recall.

If by most you mean not that many then yes, you are completely right.

Not impossible but very improbable.
I have been down this road before on another car. The FA20 is an interference engine so any valve that is not where it belongs when it belongs there can hit either the cylinder or another valve. The best case scenario is the spring breaks or gets too weak and you get a serious misfire. The worst case is the valve actually jams and the cylinder smacks it making a real mess. Not sure what sequence of event would have to go down fast enough to throw a rod without noticing the very obvious broken/weak spring symptoms first. You break a spring and the car should start throwing codes like mad before any risk to a rod exists.

Although a different cause is given in that thread the symptoms are the same. The "valves are too tight, it will need a valve adjustment" most certainty could mean a weak spring and not sticky valves.
Time will tell. I have a vested interest in this because we have TWO cars that could be impacted if it applies to all years.

I believe this story is more about the rocker arm failure, from those posts where motors went pop, even stock tuned cars driving normally.

Mine was built in April 2018, would that make it a somewhat late 2018?

Learned about this today. Emailed my dealer. He said they haven't heard anything yet.
Fingers crossed! Hopefully this is the last issue I'll ever have with this car.

(I'm slowly beginning to regret buying the manual BRZ....)

It this is all true I can not see Subaru taking all these engines in to replace the springs. I known I do not want them touching my engine if it is working fine. I would hope that they just extend the warrantee on the motor. I'd accept 15 years 150K miles!

A recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle, equipment, car seat, or tire creates an unreasonable safety risk or fails to meet minimum safety standards.

If this recall actually happens, for liability reasons Subaru won't be negotiating deals where you get to choose to have the work done OR some incentive like an extended warranty. You may be able to have Subaru give you an extended warranty in addition to replacing the valve springs.
