I have a 2005 Mustang GT...300 hp. Does zero to 60 in 5 seconds.

I have a 2015 Scion FRS...200hp. Does zero to 60 in 7 seconds.

The Mustang won't fly around corners as does the FRS.
The Mustang gets much worse gas mileage around town.

I smile much more often whilst driving the FRS.

Honestly, there's more than enough kits and ways to get more HP on this car than you'd want. Be it headers + tune, or FI.

My opinion is, keep it NA stock and let the customer decide if they want FI or not. Yes it'll void warranty but I believe the cars should remain NA and let the customer decide what route they'd want to take the car into. That's what I like about the 86. You start with a stock platform and can go any direction you'd want. Supercharger or Turbo for instance. If it already came with a turbo, that takes away the customization and modding imo. If anything I wouldn't mind if they had an extra 10-30 hp on the motor but still be NA. like a 2.1L or something. That's basically my two cents and why I love the car. Go for stance, track, or whatever your direction is. Starting off NA is better imo, driver wise as well.

"conventional wisdom," says who?

Certainly the people bitching about the low power are loud, but I doubt they are as numerous as the sound would suggest.

The reason people who have accepted the car's power for what it is are not counted is because they are probably not on forums expressing their love of the car, they are out on windy roads driving it!

The twins are naughty little sluts, they like it when you spank their tight little butts and make them scream.

Most of the people who are whining about it can't effectively use what the stock car has, but it's the lack of power that's holding them back, riiight. Turn off the traction control, Mary, and run a windy road with the tach buried on the regular before you blame the car.

saw this on facebook as well might as well give the same input here.

I feel the author hit the nail on the head. Everyone is spoiled by cars that do the work. They never challenge the skill of the driver.

This isn't really an "unpopular" opinion. Professional reviews from magazines and such have been saying that the car has adequate power for years.

It's mostly random people on the internet that say our car is too slow. And if you're using your butt dyno it does feel slow from a dig. You don't have torque like a Fiesta ST, you don't have awesome VTEC sound like a Civic SI. So unless you have instrumented tests like a professional reviewer you are probably never going to guess that the BRZ is just about as fast as an SI and slightly faster than a Fiesta ST.

Internet armchair racers are usually kids terrorizing the roads with V6 Accords and Camrys.

Case in point, when I was at the auto show a month ago and there were two 20-somethings hogging to sit in the Nismo 370Z, and I overheard one of them said "oh yea this car is sick AF cuz the most amazing thing is that it has the auto rev-match feature bruh". I just SMFH but I digress.

I've had quite a few people on the road give me thumbs up when I rev my car out and they realize afterwards even tho it's not crazy fast that it's no slouch either.

And define "decent amount of power" anyway. If it came with 250 then some will say it should have 300. If 300 then that is not enough it should be 350 and so on. Hell, guys squeeze more power out of WRXs and STis because "they don't have enough". A guy here at work has a 600hp Eclipse and he is trying to get it to 650 which will be "just right" for him.It is the numbers game and the usual internet armchair racers (not the guys that own them and want more) crowd that screams not enough the loudest.
I have asked the question of "why do you want more power?" about 20 times and have received one answer. The fun part is that there is no wrong answer but people still can not say more than "because it is under powered" which does not say why they want more.
People want it to track? Great a perfect reason. Feel they can't merge without it.? Cool I don't know how they are driving but still fine. Want bragging rights and Facebook likes? Still a valid reason no matter what anybody says. The response of "it is slow and underpowered" is not however a fact nor a reason to want more.

Coming from other tuner cars, it feels a bit...disinterested in what you want it to do. A tune has helped a lot, but that torque dip is still annoying. Should have worked on the car more to get a linear power band that would make it feel like it wants to rev. A header will soon fix that for me. Another odd thing is that 0-60 times on this car are funny because of the required shift to third screwing the numbers up. Retune allows you to hit 60 in second shaving off a lot of time... apparently the refresh is getting tweaked gear ratios and this might drop the 0-60 time a bit if you only have to shift once.

I'll admit I really miss turbos though so in the future it might end up with one.

But I believe Toyota is benefitting more from this venture than Subaru. Also if this car had more power, it would be priced in the range of the WRX. Subaru mostly does not want competition for its popular cars. Which would be the case if it got "decent" power.

The WRX is already the same price making it the obvious winner in the contest of how much car you're getting for your money. If the WRX looked as good and the cockpit (seating position, ergo, etc) was like the BRZ I would have got it. Both sitting side by side in WRB (and this was back in 2013 mind you, and I think the new WRX looks worse), I was torn and my gf wanted me to get the WRX because it's 4 doors and has more power. I asked her which one looked better and she pointed at the BRZ.

Cars like this are emotion driven. If they weren't, we'd all be driving crapboxes with 50hp because we don't need more power.

No, the car wouldn't exist. It was engineered to a price point. It is what it is and I like it. Anyone who wants more power can put more power in it or buy something else. It is very easy. Not sure why people always argue about the power

I looked a 370Z and the dealer mentioned the auto rev match thing. I scowled ant pointed at myself and said "auto rev match." He gave the knowing smile of someone relieved to have a potential buy who didn't care for that. I then pointed at my right foot and said "traction control and ABS."

I wonder if people who drop $500,000 to a million on a classic Ferrari that is about as fast as the BRZ have the same debate. I doubt it. They appreciate the car for what it is. I don't understand why that is so difficult to do with a car that only costs $25,000. The problem with power is that for some there is never enough. And I am not going to address this in terms of track use. If you are only using this car on the street, there is enough power to do anything that needs to be done from a legal standpoint.
