Been wanting to get a set of Ohlins but would prefer a bit more rear spring rate. Is this Mono Sport comparable to Ohlins in damping quality?

With the weak Yen it's probably half the price of Ohlins.

I'd be interested to hear CSGs response to this.

Bump! CSG no longer interested in the Monosports? I have family in the US so ordering from you guys is easy for me. Torn between the Monosports and SRCs. Yes huge price difference, but the $2200 will go toward other mods.

How would the SRCs running 9kg/10kg compare to the monosport 8kg/9kg - I assume the surperiour and consistant damping of the srcs will give it a better ride on the street?

I do roughtly 6 tracks days a year and the car comes out at the weekends for fun rans on rough, bumpy twisty back roads.

Example of tyres: 225-235 / 40 R17 AD08s or similar high performance summer tyre.

SRC at 10k/12k performs at a much different level compared to Mono Sport. Don't look at spring rate and automatically assume it's going to suck. Remember, valving is the most important aspect of suspension tuning.

Mono Sport will get you performance, but not necessarily it's going to be valved for all the comfort in the world either. This is simply the limitation of a good budget, performance oriented, 1-way coilover. It is priced exactly where it should be priced at and it performs surprisingly well for its price point with some creature comforts that few kits offer.

In terms of Ohlins R&T? Ohlins has a great package for the street and is designed to be a street coilover with some ability to track. It's comfortable, safe, conservative, and does about 70% of what you want. The downside is, the valving for the spring rate is limiting. At some point, you will hit that limit and it'll be incredibly difficult to improve from there. If this sounds farfetched, then you probably haven't hit that limit yet. Hope this answers your inquiry.

My last FR-S had Tein Street Flex and the new BRZ has Tein Mono Sports. The Mono Sport offers a significantly more refined ride quality for daily driving versus the Street Flex. My next track day is on March 13th, so I'll be able to give a better impression of performance benefits on track.

Bumping since I have a set of MonoSports on the way.
@GTHachiRoku, what is your set-up? Camber, damper settings, amount of drop, etc.

Hey!

I setup them up prior to install according to the diagram in the manual. This offers about a 1" drop or so. If you don't see the diagram let me know and I'll post the pic.

I usually daily with the firmness set to 10 clicks from right. I stiffened it up to 5 clicks from right for the track. I'd like to get the EDFC soon to see how dynamic changing works.

I'm currently at -3 camber front and -2.5 camber rear with zero toe all around. I don't drive it much, and when I do it's on curvy roads or the track. So there's not much worry about tire wear. If you daily yours a lot you may want to dial it back a bit to -2 front and rear camber.

Thanks.

I do daily mine, so I was thinking of -2.25 or -2.5 up front an -2 in the back.

I didn't push too hard since it was the first track day of the year. Plus I was on a new tire as well as new brake pad compound. However, it was still night and day.

The Street Flex felt really stiff. Through even paved turns they were good. The increase in mechanical grip was great. However, they didn't handle uneven paved corners or off camber turns well. They were just very stiff, and unforgiving.

The Mono Sport is much smoother. They handle transitions on track very well. For the price point I think it's best option, especially once you get the Edfc.

Seeing the jump in performance between these two makes me wish I could've gone all the way up to SRCs.

There's hardly any info out there on these coilovers, so thank you very much for the review @GTHachiRoku

The Tein SRC's are the ones that I will slap my own mother for, but the damn Canadian exchange rate is the deal breaker for me. That's why I am quite happy to see a review for the Mono Sports. Hopefully you can report back once you get some more miles under your belt and really push them.

No problem! I've got another track day next Saturday that will hopefully be fully dry!

Picked up my Monosports today!

I have to say, whoever came up with the configuration diagram needs some help. It would have been a LOT simpler to reference the measurements from the spring perch since that is a fixed reference point.

Oh well, spring height is set now. I'm probably going to take thensay off on Friday and do the install then.

Yeah, the manual is pretty bad, even if you read Japanese.

I'm really wanting to lower my ride height another .5" but I think that will get me even more - camber... which I'm afraid may be too much.
We'll see... it's on my list of things to do in my free time... which is almost non-existent now days.
