Yeah, sure, it was all those design and manufacturing changes that improved it. It's now a completely different car.

Consumer Reports is a joke. It's run by crooks and written by journalism grads whose final two job choices after everyone else rejected them were this or Starbucks. They're so bad now that they have to stay afloat by making it nearly impossible for people to cancel their subscriptions and by stealing additional subscription fees from people's credit cards after they do cancel. It wouldn't surprise me if they were out of business within the next ten years.

i'm thinking that what happened is that in the first year, the problem with the crickets and tail light condensation caused some alarm. CR probably thought that future issues would likely pop up. when they didn't, they probably looked at the big picture and concluded the car overall is reliable. just some minor issues

Was the FRS thrown out too early? Read/heard somewhere it was released a year before it truly should have been?

Biggest issues on car was not the fuel pump because although annoying, doesnt hurt the car, but rather dip in rpms when in neutral at 0mph. IMO

Also, issues with body panels.

Fuel pump is just an odd quirk. But, I am glad to see car has gone up up up.

Consumer Reports is just so helpful to the average person. Just check out their December 2015 issue..Great Gift Guide:

Electric mixer $460. smart phone $650.
4 slice toaster $400. computer $1200.
Blender $650.
Food processor $400.
Gas Range $4000.
Refrigerator $3300.
Small French Fryer $350.
ground coffee 8.8 ounces $19.
coffee maker $200.

Wonder if they've ever shopped at Wallyworld ?...toaster $11. coffee maker $16.

Well, to be fair to them, there are also a few quite affordable items in this issue.

Cars: The major gripe in past 5 years from consumer surveys...that silly screen center of dash...it's too hard to operate. Not much thought from the average driver these days... is the car actually fun to drive ?

And Consumer Reports has finally realized...people who buy sports cars or sporty cars don't really care about reliability...they'd buy the car anyway, for the fun it accords.

Typical in surveys of Sports Car owners:
Have you had lots of problems with your car? Answer: Yes.
Would you buy the same car again ? Answer: hell Yes.

I take consumer reports and I think it is a useful magazine.

Even their car analysis take into consideration what the purpose of the vehicle is.

I don't have the current issue at hand so I can't quote, but they refer to toyotas as an appliance that delivers the goods reliably, albeit unspectacularly.

They are also quite big on Subarus in general.

I t isn't your father's ( or grandpa's) magazine any more.

That's because it is run and geared towards hipsters and hipsters are huge into Subarus right now.

Who cares about consumer reports anyway? I'm pretty sure my grandma subscribes to their magazine and gave them some written and snail mailed feedback on her new stove last year.....
Not my go to resource for car buying

But so is a Dyson vacuum cleaner and a cornucopia of blenders

Seriously though, if you're buying this car or are any form of gear-head you probably don't look at consumer reports for cars....

Well there was a day in the not too distant past that it was one of the only ways to get reasonably accurate reviews and information on just about anything up to and including cars. Now it is pretty much just an anachronism since much more detailed and personal reviews are available with just a few clicks of a button.

Can't find anywhere on consumer reports were it lists the FR-S/BRZ as unreliable in fact it's the complete opposite. 90% good reviews across the board from 2013-2016.

Did you think you were buying a Mercedes.
It's a teeny lil sports car. I'm sure the 240z would have gotten shitty ratings too
