My flooded 2022 BRZ

Yep, before anyone says it, yes I was indeed very "Out of Luck".

This happened about 1.5 weeks ago during a 2 hour flash food storm.

Sucks because I've put so many hours of work and money into the car, it's also been an extremely stressful week until yesterday.

I was one of the first allocations in New Jersey and I've had this car for a fantastic 7 months and racked up 9k miles.

I was extremely worried about the payout from Geico as I've heard many conflicting stories about dealing with them and also in regards to payout #'s from people that have previously gotten their twin totaled.

I've gotten EXTREMELY lucky. EXTREMELY. They paid me out $41,700 for the car, didn't even take my mileage into account. My insurance adjuster let me know that because of the lack of market data in their system for the car, this is the payout they came to. I initially planned on countering their initial offer since I assumed they'd offer slightly over MSRP, but I was shocked to hear those numbers.

During the meantime I looked day and night for allocations all across the USA, I luckily found a 2023 GR86 in the exact specs that I want pop up at my local dealer. Unfortunately there was a very small markup, but because I got my BRZ -1k under MSRP I am able to walk away from all this while profiting slightly.

After re-paying for some lost parts + labor + the markup + taxes, I will walk away from this with around $500 in profit. I lost my radar detector in the flood, clear side markers, lug nuts (probs gonna get new ones), misc stuff in the trunk including some jordans, and a whole bunch of tools in the garage.

I'm extremely thankful to walk away from this situation like this but I just wanted to share this info with you all just in case god forbid this happens to any of you.

I talked with 2 other people that had my same spec brz/color (limited, 6mt, wrb). One had 5k miles the other at 8k miles, both got paid out $38,000 by insurance. I talked with someone else that had a brz (unknown spec/color) who got rear ended, he got paid out $31000 by insurance.

So if this ever happens and insurance offers way too little, always fight.

It's been such a rough time recently but now that everything is cleared up I'm excited to hop in a twin again..

That's a real good news story!

The other day I was looking at Autotrader just to see what the market looked like for gen 2 BRZ's. I saw a large number of used '22s with 3~5K miles going for $40~$42K. That's $10K more than I paid for mine new at MSRP. Crazy.

We had some flash flooding yesterday at work and I was a little worried if I was going to watch my car float away. Fortunately I was parked at the high end of the lot where the water drains away. Cars at the other end had water up to the bottom of their doors and were in danger of floating.

Wow, that's good insurance. Glad you were able to turn a real shitty situation into a decent one.

This was geico right? I’m guessing your engine was okay? Did you start it up after the flooding.
