P2096 CEL Code week after installing header

As the title states. Recently installed CNT UEL headers with an o2 spacer in my car and after a week a code appeared reading P2096 Post Catalyst Fuel Trim System Too Lean Bank 1. I can't think of what might be causing the CEL. Possibly something with the o2 spacer? I don't think it could be an exhaust leak or faulty sensor considering its a brand new car (4K miles).

I cleared the code and it hasn't come back as of yet. I'm also not running a tune yet but I will be soon. Would the tune get rid of the CEL?

An O2 sensor spacer is not a solution, its a bandaid. It works sometimes, it doesnt on others. If you want to use headers, get the car tuned.

I just got the same code yesterday! It's weird being the car is full e85 Moto-east tuned staged 2 sprintex sc with a full exhaust for a while without any hickup, and the CEL comes on. And I had the secondary 02 switched off from that tune.

First off, you should get a tune if you're going to run headers.

That being said, I had problems with my O2 sensors shaking out of the headers because I didn't torque them down enough.

Thanks for the snarky response haha stating the truth. So there's no way there's an exhaust leak (being a new car) and just the o2 spacer not doing its job? Looks like a tune will be my next investment.

Leak is possible. More likely it is the spacer.

When you installed the header, did you use new gaskets? The lean code is most likely an exhaust leak in the header gaskets. Air gets in there and the upstream O2 sensor sees the extra oxygen and throws the code.

Fix it because it's throwing off your AFR even if there's no code and that will adversely affect engine performance- you're losing power. Plus the possibilty of damaging stuff. Your fuel trims will be all screwed up and if the engine is dumping fuel into the cylinders to treat a lean condition that doesn't exist, you can end up washing down the cylinders and getting fuel in your oil- which is bad. Plus there's other bad things that can happen. It's not the O2 sensor. It's working and telling you that you fucked something up. Your exhaust may be new but you messed with it- fix it.

NEVER clear a code unless you KNOW what caused it.

I used the same gaskets considering how brand new the car is. I'll check for a leak tomorrow and get new gaskets if need be. We checked it through a friend's OFT and fuel trims seemed fine. Also got a deal on an OFT of my own so that'll help. Thanks!

Toss that junk ass spacer and get a tune. Leave that damn code enabled until you get that tune. Your now introducing alot more fuel into your oil and degrading it badly.

I had this code triggered when my secondary o2 sensor was pooched. Part of the problem was that the OFT tune I had prior to going FI and ECUTek, disabled the code P2096 along with P0420. The sensor was likely failing long before that but I wasn't getting a CEL so I was fat dumb and happy. With my EcuTek tune only P0420 code is disabled since I am catless. The ECU still needs the the secondary sensor for keeping LTFT in control when in closed loop so disabling it or shutting the sensor off isn't a good practice. A spacer can also trigger P2096 as it is moving the sensor out of the exhaust stream.

OFT disables P0420 only. Not any lean code- that'd be insane if they did that.

I opened it up in RomRaider and was surprised to see it off. Just downloaded the OTS_v2.076 from openflash and both P2097 and P2096 are off in the stage 2 tunes

Yeah I thought OFT gets rid of P2096 as well. At least from what I read on other threads and other's experience.
