I'm pretty sure it has to do with pedestrian crash standards (thanks EU). (at least regarding how tall and chunky it is)
Just because it's required doesn't mean it's attractive though.

Yeah, I know. But it doesn't make it any less played out, which it arguably was when the first STIs reached out shores, as it wasn't uncommon to see a WRB WRX with gold wheels (sometimes the Supperleggeras, back in 2002-2003). But to me it's too recent to bring back as a nod to the past.

I know I'm in the minority but the nose is my favorite part. It just looks angry.

just my .2 cents
To be honest, the new 15 STi specs look great on paper and probably is a blast to drive. I have previously owned a 2005 STi before and I can without a doubt say that the performance of an STi has never let me down before. I have owned a 2003 WRX, 2012 WRX and a 01 2.5 RS. I am currently rocking my 12 WRX. Coming from modded WRX and STi, I can without a doubt say that having a lot of power is not what it is cracked up to be. Now hear me out, having lots of power has put a smile to my face but using that power on a daily basis is quite small. As I get older now, 29, I have come to appreciate the finer balances in life.
My heart is set on buying a BRZ once I get back from Afghanistan. Appreciate the cars you have now. As much as the new technology of the STi have, I do not think that I can personally feel satisfied owning one. Just as much as I like my WRX, I am just not quite happy completely with it for some reason. It is missing that driver and car relationship. Just my .2 cents. |

I saw a '15 STI launch edition at the Denver Auto Show a couple weeks back, and I definitely think it looks great in person (much better than the pictures in my opinion). I also love the blue/gold color scheme. I am still sad about the lack of a hatch version though.

I am marrying the best woman ever. I was taking my soon to be wife and she gave me the blessing if *I DID* or wanted to trade my 13 FRS for a 15 WRX. I figure the hit of trading it in would be the cost to add a quality turbo to the FRS.

Please test drive one first. You may like it at first with its power but take notice in the lack of feedback the car gives you. It is lacking in that department compared to your FRS, coming from a 2012 WRX owner. However, that power always puts a smile to my face .

Again even with Boss 302 package Mustang is still behind the Camaro 1LE's lap times , it's the best performance car below $55k (right below C7 Z51 Corvette and ZL1) ..if it wasn't for the lightweight I would probably be driving one I'd be surprised if new Sti can keep up with aging Evo X with its Ej series engine.. Been there done that

the STi and EVO are great performance cars per the $35k-40k range. It is just that there are a lot of import fanboys who just don't want to admit that domestics are just as good now. Domestics have come a long ways from the 80's, 90's and even into the 2000's. There are a lot of great domestic cars for your $ like the Mustang, Focus ST, Camaro, and others in the same price range as a FRS/BRZ and even better in the STi range.
I just think there are to many JDM fanboys here are just being bias, and this is coming from a JDM fanboy. |
