BRZ vs 2015 WRX STI

My boss's son just picked up a CBS limited last night. It's got a real menacing look to it with the boomerang headlights and front end in person. The interior is real nice and very comfortable, and the heads up display is pretty sweet. Even the back seats are nice. The only thing I didn't like was how quiet it was when he pulled away. Can't wait till it's broken in and get to drive it!

AMG's 6.2-liter was just a hair less torquey given the slight displacement deficit but even in its M156 tunes (rather than the M159 tune in the SLS AMG, which isn't really a fair comparison), it still matched or beat its hp and torque numbers in most applications above the standard C63. How come its highway mpg was so poor in comparison? I'd assume that the car had enough bottom torque to keep the car moving at highway speeds without needing too many revs (like the LS7 or even the LS3, which was also a 6.2), yet its gearing wasn't really as tall as it could've been, especially with a seven-speed transmission.

Weight gearing and drag coefficient . My C63 got 21 mpg steady highway cruising with 475 wheel horsepower. My 427 gets 25 with the top down.

be prepared to see 16-22mpg max. if this STI gets 30+mpg and 28mpg mixed. i'd consider.


or i'd just get a f80 m3 instead that gets 32mpg with 450hp.



you will get really sick of 16mpg really really quick. trust me.

Unfortunately, it won't get anything near that, when it has pretty much the same powertrain as before, one that managed numbers well below that.

I'd be shocked if it gets that unless you really drive it cautiously and mostly on the highway. My dad only gets ~22-23mpg out of his F30 335i, which is fairly far from the EPA numbers (though he has managed to squeeze 32mpg out of it on long highway trips before).

the new 2015 f80 m3 does get avg ~~ 30mph. check it out. they've announced it over and over again for the past 12months.

its a completely new engine plant




its more effecient and more powerful than the previous 335i

I think I'm gonna jump ship and go get a STi. The look is growing on me and the reviews are awesome. It has everything I'm looking for: power, handling, looks, 4 DOORS, back seats, practicality. As much as I like the BRZ, I believe the STi is on another level when it is compared to the BRZ. I like the old EJ257 as it fits the STi personality. The engine has been improved. The new STi are dyno at 260-270 compared to last years model of 230-240. A 30+- hp increase. Stage 2 is already over 300rwhp.

Sti is a ton of fun. No question. Having that power when you mash the pedal down is so addicting.
But... I don't think the handling is on the same level. They handle pretty great for being a heavy, awd, sedan, but not anything like a purpose built, light coupe.
No denying the power and practicality though. I wish I could have both haha.

It's on another level because it costs 10k more.

An STI is not even remotely comparable to a twin. Not that someone might not enjoy the change, but the STI is an AWD sedan with a significantly higher COG. I feel like I'm on a high horse in my WRX compared to the FR-S. Despite the WRX being brand new and having all the extra amenities, I still almost always choose to drive my twin every day. The way I see it I've got all winter to play with the WRX.

The STI and WRX now have very similar handling except the STI has a tighter steering gear ratio. Down the road I can Cobb tune the WRX for similar power as well if I want to. Right now I am enjoying the much better mileage and the idea of longterm ownership with a newer more efficient engine. The Brembos don'tmmatter much except doing circuit duty. I painted my calipers black with clear coat for a nice stealthy look.
