Not every car is the same. That's my beef with the OFT. Is it terrible? Not at all, they're decent off the shelf tunes. Ecutek lets you customize based on YOUR bolt-ons and how your car runs which is why in my opinion, it makes it worth it over the OFT.

you can have an OFT tuned on a dyno also, you just need a tuner that will work with it. Most tuners only use ECUTek because its more profitable for them.

Exactly. When I got my JDL EL, it definitely felt better with the OFT but they don't have a tune for a long tube catted EL header. Stage 2 is apparently too aggressive for a header with cats. There was a lot left on the table. If I had the time/patience/energy to learn to tune I would have done it myself. Since I don't have any of those things I let @OPSash do his magic and now my tune is optimized for my JDL EL catted headers. Car runs like a champ!

Yeah, I had @nelsmar clean up Toni's BS tune I wasted $300 on. He didn't change too much timing on it and raised the rev limiter to 8000 rpm. Car feels so much better and we're on revision #17 now I think? Just a few more logs till its complete before it will take 100-200 logs just to squeeze out maybe 1-2 more HP.

You can custom tune with OFT... The OTS tunes Shiv provides are really just base maps, albeit good ones.

So can you take an OFT to lets say an Ecutek tuner and they tune with them in the same manner or are the platforms for tuning completely different? Granted they probably won't do it since they're in the business for money, but still. I suppose that really encourages people to learn themselves too which brings Ecutek's price down as well.

OFT uses romraider to alter the maps. They may be labelled slightly differently and there won't be the Race Rom stuff that Ecutek does but it is otherwise the same. Whether you can convince your tuner to use it is the only issue.

You can do almost everything ECUtek can do. Romraider isn't the only option for editing maps, I had tunerpro or something like that to edit mine. Any tuner should be able to tune with it, however will they is a different story.

While everyone is correct in saying that for an NA application (that being the key differentiator) OFT can do everything Ecutek can do, the idea that somehow ecutek is more profitable to tuners is off-base. Tuners charge labor, and that labor is the same regardless of what the user prefers to tune with. I tune both Ecutek and OFT, and there is no financial advantage to me for either platform. The margin on selling licenses is basically nothing, and most users nowadays already have them anyway.

I do, however charge more for OFT tunes just because the software is much less refined and the process takes a lot longer. You can basically do 4 ecutek runs for every 1 OFT run (using map switching). The flash/file transfer eats up about 4x as much time, and you have to flash again between each run. On the dyno it's particularly painful, as they don't stop charging you while it's flashing (which is also true of ecutek, you just do it much less often and it's much faster).

So yeah there's no functional difference to an NA car (aside from RaceRom special features, which only matters to some people), but there's no financial benefit either way. People who refuse to tune it have other reasons, likely software/support concerns.

He probably cleaned up your MAF scaling, cam phasing, and timing. MAF scaling being right is very influential on smoothness & "betterness".
