OFT P0016 and TSB question

2013 - 51k miles
code - p0016

**UPDATE**12/02/15
Just got an update from dealer and full ECU replacement is the next route. At first, they were not going to do an ECU replacement because the codes being thrown (p0016) was for intake side of engine and did not qualify for ECU replacing. They called Toyota who advised to replace finally.

Thus far:
1) ECU reflash to updated version - didn't work
2) 2 Sensors replaced (possibly cam shaft sensor/OCV sensor??) - didn't work
3) Waiting on full ECU replacement this Friday - crossing fingers

Thank god for Toyota Powertrain warranty 5yrs/60k (car at dealer total of 8 days this Friday).

I would get a dealer reflash and then flash your tune ontop of that.

So my oft tune on top of that would be diff from where I originally began? I'm under the impression it would just erase w/e the dealer just did and bring me back to square 1.

I would love to help but tuning is way above my pay grade.
My tuning experience and expertise is restricted to twisting the distributer to get the right angle for the most advance and gapping the points so they just touch.
Now you ever have a carbureted big block dodge you need tuned give me a shout.

My guess however is that yes, you would end up right back where you started.

I don't think the flash tune replaces everything on the ECU, but I am not sure.

Edit: Lets get you the answer @Shiv@Openflash

Each flash of ECU is totally independent.

Before each flash entire rom is erased then completely new rom written.

Since you have flashed back to stock before service you can erase your oft and then marry up to any updated rom the dealer flashes.

Once remarried just flash your stage 2 tune to car it may now be a different calid eg maybe previous it was A01C, maybe dealer will flash B01C so you will need to load oft with matching calid tunes (it wount ley you load different ones will throw an error massage)

However I dont think the ecu flash from dealer will fix the issue as with oft tune you would have already been running the latest calid rom for your car ie even if your oft tunes is a 700C 900C A00C A01C B00C the oft tune you run is based on the latest compatable rom for your car which is B01C or D if your auto.

so your issue will almost certainly require some replacement or mod to hardware. including replacement ECU hardware or re-shim the cam sensors or replace the cam actuator or oil control valves.

see the TSB linked in this post http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showp...01&postcount=3

Maybe buried really deep in the basement there may be some survivors. Doubt it though.

I understood "flash" and "tune" out of all that.

For anyone who comes across this and is wondering what happened. With the help of a friend (frs owner) who works in the service dept.. I was able to get this covered under warranty under powertrain 5/60. Issue with going through a TSB is that the p0016 code is only stating the ECU should be reflashed with no replacement parts. Anyways, they said it would be done 4 days.
