I am glad you guys love to drive MT in traffic. But most don’t. Go research some of the newer cars with adaptive cruise control that literally can drive your car in traffic. Now I generally don’t like self driving car stuff personally, but go look at reviews, people love it.

Only MT fanboys will try to convince someone that MT is fine in traffic vs an AT. Hey I can eat steak with a butter knife just fine.

But OP if you don’t see a lot of traffic, get the MT. It’s that simple.

That's rich. They were just as easy then.

Honestly in traffic I missed the sloppy big truck trans with no synchros. Don't miss the 54k lbs behind it though

Great if he's was just getting it as a daily.

OP After reading your responses I 110% think you need another car.

Something under 10k.
If this is your first car and you want to slide/track it you WILL be crashing it at some point.

Get the Z call it a day.
Or if there are still cheap 240's or 1st/2nd gen miatas do that instead.

DO NOT get a FRS/86/BRZ

And yes ONLY get a MT.
But why you think its better the Z than the BRZ?

Thanks for that info!

around the time i bought my first manual, my brothers both bought manuals as well. i've still got mine, they had to sell theirs for personal reasons, though both really wish they could've stretched financially to keep the manuals...

with these new cars clutches, i really don't get what all the fuss is about with 'traffic' and manuals... i drove through chicago rush hour for 2 years with a manual.

find someone to teach you, or read up on how to do it, find a dealer with a manual, and try it! either you'll like it, or you'll hate it. i get bored easily driving. i love being able to do something else that interacts with the process.
Thats true, and specially here in Florida where almost all roads are straight it might be more fun, or less boring to have a manual, but not sure if more comfortable

If you are proficient with MT, then its almost a non-issue IMO.

I never think about "oh my legs and arms are getting tired of this" because im just so used to modulating the clutch with my left leg and shifting with my right arm, its pretty much second nature.
It was actually very weird giving up the MT the first time around after driving MT the majority of the time because my leg and arm has nothing to do anymore lol. I would instinctively have my limbs just gravitate towards that third pedal and shifter, which don't exist.
Yep, thats true, the problem is that i dont even know if i am proficient, the last time a drove a manual was about 2 years ago, and i dont know anyone who has a manual so I cant even try it out. But eventually i think i would get proficient in some time.

You get a twin because you like the feel of all the inputs and balance of the car. If you want cheap speed or something with actually some torque to the wheels probably a lot better to get a GTI, Veloster, Mustang, or a 350/370z..
I get your point, and after reading forums, watching reviews and all that stuff i know that the brz is not about straight line speed, it is fun to drive, nice handling, good feeling. i know that, but i just want to change my civic for a car i really want and i can own for minimum 5 years, so thats why i want the upgrade. Ive been always into cars and with my sim at home and that stuf i want to get started into this world.

Bought the car almost 2 years ago as my daily and I still love driving it everyday, I drive it exclusively in the manual mode and whilst it’s not as engaging as a true manual it still gives some of the fun feeling of being able to downshift/ upshift with a fair bit of leniency from the ECU while still having the benefits of an auto transmission when you want to wind the windows up, put it in Drive and cruise

I’ve done all the NA power mods to it and whilst off the line it’s fairly sluggish compared to the manual, I’m still usually accelerating away from most of the other commuters on the road without trying to.

If you want this car exclusively for the track and street then I’d go the manual. But if you plan to daily it and aren’t as fussed then the AT still provides a fun driving experience in addition to AT comfort when you want it.

+ If you have an aftermarket catback you can make the auto fart on shifts which sounds cool. (More of a thump sound than a fart)
Ill take it into account! which mods do you have?

Goes back to the point where driving a MT becomes "automatic".

I drove an '85 MR2 MT in Washington, DC traffic (an hour commute each way) for almost 150,000 miles. It never occurred to me once that the MT got old. Then again, it didn't occur to me that I was even changing gears.

Until I joined this forum I didn't even realize people found a MT difficult in traffic. I never realized that was a thing.

On the flip side, everyone here that says the AT in the car is boring have probably not driven it in Manual mode using the shifter or the pedals. Except for the movement of your foot, I find it just as much fun as a manual and pretty much is close to the "best of both transmission worlds".
