I've never met anyone who ever regretted buying any manual. I have known people who regretted buying an automatic.

Its the difference between enjoying an MT, vs just knowing how to drive MT

any car equipped with an MT i find more fun period.

My dad in comparison knows how to drive MT but i don't think he particularly cares about it (hes not a car guy like me). Aside from the fact hes old, he's better off driving AT.

My opinion might be different if I had experience driving the MT but as an AT owner I don’t have any regrets.

Bought the car almost 2 years ago as my daily and I still love driving it everyday, I drive it exclusively in the manual mode and whilst it’s not as engaging as a true manual it still gives some of the fun feeling of being able to downshift/ upshift with a fair bit of leniency from the ECU while still having the benefits of an auto transmission when you want to wind the windows up, put it in Drive and cruise

I’ve done all the NA power mods to it and whilst off the line it’s fairly sluggish compared to the manual, I’m still usually accelerating away from most of the other commuters on the road without trying to.


If you want this car exclusively for the track and street then I’d go the manual. But if you plan to daily it and aren’t as fussed then the AT still provides a fun driving experience in addition to AT comfort when you want it.

+ If you have an aftermarket catback you can make the auto fart on shifts which sounds cool. (More of a thump sound than a fart)

I've had the opposite problem.
After driving rental cars for months, first thing I do at the airport is get in my car, start it up, and jam the gearshift into gear.

I've had both. Auto FRS and Manual BRZ. Both have their pluses and minuses. Auto is great for daily driving. Just start up and go. Manual is awesome because of shifting gears yourself. Auto is not as fun and manual sucks for traffic.

Everyone who bitches about manuals in traffic must never have driven one from the 70s or 80s. Modern manuals are no harder to drive in traffic than an auto.

I have cerebral palsy and my left side is atrophied. I learned to drive stick as a continuation of physical therapy when I aged out of childrens hospital. Then I got a driving paper route so between the clutch and throwing 350 papers a day out the window and over the car really helped my situation. I did this until I was 22 and it got me over a critical hump. Most people would look like Popeye after that but I just look a lot less awkward.

I got so used to a manual and enjoyed it so an automatic never even entered my mind when buying my own cars (wife is a different story). I did chase down the BRZ though. There are so few around me so dealerships just don't carry them. And my car arrived at a great point in my life so it's all great.

I have to disagree. After a long day at work, sitting in stop and go traffic in the oranges on the GSP sucks in my AT. Don’t see how it’s more fun or engaging to push a clutch in and release to go 5 feet, stop and do it over again for 15-30 min everyday. It gets old fast.

Without a doubt , MT is more fun and engaging in all other scenarios.

then don't. wait until traffic moves up another 20-30 feet before moving. i did this for a couple years in chicago traffic, which just topped the list for some of the worst traffic in the states... and i know, BUT PEOPLE ARE GOING TO COME INTO MYYYYYYY LANE!!! I OWN THIS LANE!! THIS LANE IS MY CHILD!! I MORTGAGED THIS LANE!!!! well, yea, they do that, and then they tend to jump back out into another lane shortly, and i'll end up passing them later.

it's actually what ended up making the entire process more enjoyable to me, as everyone was all but murdering each other to move 0.5' at a time, and here i am just chilling leaving gaps of 30-50', only to end up passing these murderous rampaging lunatics that are swerving, using the shoulder, and can see the veins popping out of their heads from all the stress... first step is acknolwedging that traffic is moving, there's no alternative, and it will eventually move. so turn up the music, or if you're into talking dj's, enjoy their banter, and just let it go.

the real problem with driving stickshift in traffic isn't the car. it's the stubborn road ownership violence issues.

and keep in mind, i did this all in a work-truck spec, single cab chevy colorado, which is the most abysmal place to ever be. they make nicer prison cells.

The manual “is a chore” think in traffic thing is all wrong. Once you formulate it as a game on how to synchronize when to advance and just keep the roll the right amount with little or no braking or clutch use and not loose a space to the lane jumpers it becomes a pastime no auto can duplicate.

If you cant play games get an auto…

Ive been perfecting my traffic game since ’77 never ever wanted to play it with an auto.
Im retired now so I seldom meet up with traffic willingly and have a perfect 15 yr old beater for my city drives and aggressive lane changers no longer bother me as much when they dare try to cut in.

My dear old dad used to borrow my cars back in the day for weekend drives with my mom and managed the clutch like a pro but still was sold on automatics as he could multitask between smokes, the wife’s attention and swatting the 4 misbehaving kids in the back seat.
