Can “ certified “ sellers do paperwork from salvage to rebuilt?
Hey guys I’m on the hunt for a new car , and I’ve stumbled upon quite a few sellers who claim to be “certified” or know someone in an office who can handle paperwork to issue a CURRENT salvage title into a rebuilt one with my name after purchase.
Keep in mind I’m only used to title transfers through the court offices , where there’s quite a few fees. But these sellers claim to do it this way to “help me save money” From what I’ve read, when you have a salvage title you have to submit a report of all repairs done to fix the car making it drivable again, along with quite a few forms as well to the appropriate courthouse place I’m just curious , is this a thing? Or is this a flat out scam? Thanks |

Uncle Jim is only certified to drool in the corner.
If they cannot legally "certify" the car until after you buy it ...

I have zero idea how the certification system there works but do know that places that want to "help save you money" by circumventing the system rarely save you anything.

Texas will require you to provide documentation that the car was repaired, along with a passing state inspection before you register it. You'll then receive a rebuilt title. You can transfer a salvage for salvage with minimal paperwork. Not legal to drive on the road until it's registered and title transferred.
It's not a difficult task and really not much more expensive than transferring and registering a car with no issues. There are some states where a title is easily "washed". This may be the scenario you're looking at. Illegal and really not worth it for the pennies you'd be saving. |
