Or about $35k anyways. It won't be starting in the 40s, Ford isn't stupid.

With initial dealer markups 40-50k is possible, but that won't be MSRP. You can't do a currency conversion to determine the price in the US.

Nope.. final pricing and details will come later in the year. The car won't hit the street until next year it looks like.

For 35K, this will be a bargain imo. My guess is 39,990 + options = 42,000+. I'll take a shot of Jager if I am wrong.

Ford isn't stupid, this car is going to undercut the STI and Golf R. Around $33-35k. More than $40k? Not a chance because then you're playing with Audi S3s and CLA 45 AMG's and M235i's.

^ This. While the RS may have a more sophisticated AWD system and a better power to weight ratio than the Golf R, it won't have the same level of German solidity or well-oiled ride quality (even though it will in fact be made in Germany), nor will it have anything close to the R's interior refinement. It's going to be $1-2k less than the R to be market competitive, so about $38-39k in Canada. However initial demand could be very high, so ADMs may be common for the first 6 months to a year.

It may be more of a driver's car than the R in the end - several reviewers have found the R hyper-competent but lacking in grin-on-the-face involvement. Jim Kenzie (a leading auto journo up here) talked to several test drivers who participated in a comparative test of the RS prototype vs. Evo/Sti/R and the word is the thing's fantastic.

He mentions it in this article which also has some other good bits of info:

As much as I like my FR-S, I'd probably trade up, no engine chirp, lack of torque and engine knock!

I feel like how successful this thing becomes will all come down to price.

I agree. If it's low $30ks it'll be a big competitor.

It's going to be closer to 40k than 30k that's for sure. Recaro seats alone add 3-5k. If it's anywhere near 30k, everyone will jump ship and dealer markup will bring it back up in price.

My bet is it will actually go for over $40K. Like the top line 'Stangs Ford won't be looking to sell piles of them and are not likely to price them accordingly. It will be more of a "oh too much, well over here we have a nice ST" case than trying to flog them in any volume.
