I'd buy a car "Just for Fun" But I'd drive it all the time, and have fun all the time.

I think what I enjoy most about driving manual, is it requires me to operate. It engages the driver, as MtnDrvr86 said, and that is very appealing to me.

Some people might not find their fancy in a manual, either they know how and do not enjoy it, or they do not know how, and would like something in between - so they can experience the "I choose what gear, not you" but not have to worry about stalling at the intersection.

DSG gives people who otherwise can't or won't drive manual a chance to experience some of the fun. Not all, cause having fancy foot work is part of the excitment of standard transmissions, but the DSG and others give drivers a chance to see how exciting driving can be.

I don't get why the 6mt members get so worked up at the thought of auto trannys. If anyone of you drove this car or tracked with a 6at you would find out how much this car competes. not in a flat out drag race, which nobody does but with the auto there is no chance of user error (unless you shift into next gear too early). look at all sports cars... why are 95% moving to paddle shift auto shifting.... I understand the "fun sporty car heritage" but lets not bash other frs fans who drive autos on a daily basis because you prefer your manual.... they both are great, fun cars to own.
