That's just standard. A plane is a plane is a plane. Look just as he passes by the camera at fifteen seconds. He knew he had enough airspeed and hopped over that person in the water. That was no flare. Fully in control. I'm 100% sure he was thinking "Shit, I should've dropped in sooner."

Plus, it will give the old coots something to do besides sitting around telling back-in-the-day stories.

I thought he did a great job of getting it down. Prop had almost stopped.

Had a friend do that with a 210, got about twenty guys on the beach to get under the wings. all lifted and walked it out of the water up the beach to the road. Still got a ticket from the ranger in charge of the beach. Something like operating a motor vehicle in a restricted area.

Anybody have experience with this?
I suggest you not do it, unless you have a garage, a bunch of tools, a lot of spare time and money.

That's the kind of pilot that practices dead-stick spot landings for fun. It's cool AF to ride ground effect.

Basically what I’d do is have a shop check it out. Assuming it’s just a bumper and maybe rear quarter needing replacement, do that. Would only get it if the shop confirms maintenance and working order of the power train and stuff.

I don’t have a garage but plenty of outdoor parking, and the paint already looks in rough shape so I wouldn’t mind it sitting in the sun.

But I dunno if I’ll actually do it.

gotta play it like inception. send your buddy, get him to be really pushy, way lowball of an offer, of course the guy isn't going to sell. but put the bug in his ear. 6 months later, go up to him yourself all nice and chit chatty and ask about buying it for fair market value...

No, the located all of them, and are actually trying to recover (or at least were trying to recover) at least one of the others.

The team plans to extract another P-38 from the ice between May and August 2016. The glacier is drifting towards the sea, leaving most of the planes near or in a crevasse field too dangerous for a salvage mission.

Led by entrepreneurs Ken McBride and Jim Salazar, the group of a dozen Canadian and American explorers who have been working on the project since 2010 will attempt to extract the P-38 "Echo", piloted by Capt. Robert Wilson and the second plane of the squadron to attempt landing, and donate it to a museum. Wilson's P-38 was the first to land wheels up after the first P-38, piloted by Brad McManus, flipped over when the front gear penetrated the ice on roll out and collapsed. The rest of the squadron successfully landed wheels up.

This is a great story on another arctic aircraft.
If they hadn't got sloppy they could have FLOWN the thing out 50 years after it crashed!

Allergy season is here... I'm hating it. Older I get, worse the allergy season is...

Good news, Kershaw Leek with CF handle was on the sale, so I bought one (online).

Bad news, I still need to unpack garage stuff before I can restart blacksmithing... but I wanna start up again (before early summer).
