Exhausts rarely, if ever, make more HP/TRQ unless you're changing out a catted header or in some cases a secondary cat. Even then, a tune is what really gets you the extra power.

And even if they did make a difference, you wont notice it. Advertised "10% HP gains!" from a CAI or CBE is absolute BS.

Always has been BS, they conveniently leave out the part where they had to use a tune to get those numbers and slap a "your results may vary" sticker on it.

@trippinbillies40 tested a 3" exhaust and made *no* power, so any catback out there is going to do nothing at best.

It's not just CA, it's all 50 states. The EPA says you can't change any part of the emissions system. So from cats, to an EGR valve, to a breather, to a TUNE.

You can thank the idiot coal rollers for the EPA coming down on tunes. But they have technically always been illegal since the software that controls the engine is part of the emissions system.

I just read on another Subaru forum that eBay no longer allows the sale of hand held tuners (and presumably other types). I checked eBay and, sure enough, the ones i use are nowhere to be found. I wonder if they will extend their policy to all other auto parts that could affect emissions systems?

They are going to keep coming down hard on emissions for many decades to come. Eventually they will start coming down on track vehicles too.

Aftermarket companies like Flyin' Miata stopped selling tuning solutions quite a while ago. I suspect other big aftermarket companies will soon follow suit for fear of being crushed by the EPA.

The "Off-road use only" is no longer the legal protection it once was. Which is stupid. A 15-year Camry is putting out more emissions then a new tuned BRZ, especially on corn.

Like I said, we can really thank the coal rolling, bro dozers. But that's the way it always is, a small few ruin it for the rest of us.

I had no idea this was a thing. Pretty awful actually, it really is a case of a few (deliberately, stubbornly) bad actors ruining it for everyone.

And HKS, for all their might, merely squeezed out 3hp with their Spec L2.

So what is it going to take to get 10 to 20 hp more? Will a tune alone do it, or do you need a tune and headers?

Header and tune, or E85 tune.

Installed my MXP Comp RS Exhaust last night.. oh boy this sounds good and it's perfect for what I wanted.

Just enough sound to make a presence, but not too quiet that it would seem like a waste (to me).

Cold starts aren't as loud as I thought they were but it still needs to be broken in, nice deep rumble and good tone when you get on it, but when you are cruising on the highway it's 100% manageable with no apparent drone.

Really? Isnt the Comp RS known for drone around the 2500-3500 rpm range?
