GM was very specific that they would be releasing the WT trim first, primarily to fleet owners and rental agencies, but that it will be available to the general buying public as well. The fancy RST Release version won't be available until well after the WT version.

The base WT is listed at $39,995 which is not too far off from a base ICE truck. A base ICE crew cab 4WD Silverado (which they probably sell very few a year) is $41,990 on the Chevy configurator.

Ah, okay. That's good to hear. They do already have the Hummer to fill the $100K market, so a high end Silverado isn't exactly needed right now. I also don't think Ford has announced a top spec F-150 either.

I was actually talking about the $100K versions. Even the F-150 XLT with the 300 mile battery, which is the only option above the work truck right now, is supposedly starting at $74K. So it is true that the base trucks are right in line with the crew cab models, and are still nicely equipped, which is impressive. But if you are looking for more range with a budget under $50K, these trucks still aren't a good buy. I'll be interested to see if they do a Ranger or Canyon EV sometime soon to fill that segment of the market or if they'll just rely on the hybrids for now.

batteries are the most expensive part of ev's. $40k for a 300mi ev is about right. it's going to take a drastic improvement in battery tech to change that. look at tesla, or gm's cars for further clarification of the point.

ford dropped the ranger in 2011 because other than physical size, there was nothing significant to separate it from the f150. fuel mileage was within spitting distance with ICE power, and converting it to EV would have a similar end.

they're making large vehicles so efficient now, there's very little benefit to mid-size trucks except fringe cases like me who insist on on a non-full-size truck for #reasons.

GM hasn't really said what the base for the RST will be. The $105,000 version is the ceiling, an all in, there's nothing left to add to it, you know you want to be the first to own one release version.

Given you can order a "base" Hummer EV for $80K I would expect that the RST will start below that somewhere. They also announced (but did not talk a lot about) a Trail Boss off-road version. The Trail Boss, in their ICE trucks, usually starts below the RST.
