Why not look into an E36? It will take anything you've got, it can do anything (Autocross, track, stancebr0, stock daily), they're pretty damn cheap, and are a great platform to learn maintenance on ( because you will be maintaining it). I would urge you to stick to a 325 or 328 though. The 318 very rarely comes with an LSD and even more rarely has been taken care of.
E36 also comes in 2 door or 4 door trim, can have heated seats, and has an impressive aftermarket still.

i was just going to suggest the E36 as well. Those come up around here a lot more than Miatas or RX8s and cheaper. Plus its not a problem if its not expected to be a reliable daily driver.
