I read somewhere that the current vaccines are all based on the first wave of COVID. Same article suggested the boosters need updating.

Updated vaccines/boosters have not worked as well, even against the variant they target. Mixing original phizer/moderna still seems to have the best results. Not that new approaches aren't still in the works, just how it's shaken out so far. Still so much to learn.

No booster means waning protection. Still better off than not vaccinated.

It’s a remarkable age we live in. I don’t know if you guys have ever heard it referred to a the genetic age but our ability to quickly sequence people’s to determine these mutations (in real-time!) is amazing. To then use these genomes and build out their structural difference to see how the spike protein changes and what that means for the receptor is as I said before, remarkable.

I definitely ate my words in responding to the no vaccine people saying there would be endless shots. I and everyone didn’t predict we’d be here (for better or worse). It’s unfortunate to me there’s a 4 month interval between boosters. That should speak for the fears of some lasting genetic change in your body. Another positive thought, knowing a prevalent mutation allows us again to change an mRNA vaccine much quicker than attenuation. A last positive note on this Saturday, even the very novel omicron mutations didn’t create a change that the vaccine was completely ineffective against. Largely these are the same virus still, but have some conformation changes. That means they still work against the changing structure of this.

This is what I hoped we could get to in our back and forth 86tokyo17.

As far as I can tell, the boosters target the virus in its original form. I haven’t seen anything to suggest the vaccines have been re-engineered for any of the variants. I’ve seen suggestions that they should be, but nothing indicating they have been.

Since Delta the virus has been a fairly fast moving target. New vaccines may be close to obsolete before they’re released.

Maybe so, but, meanwhile, I'll keep firing with the ammo that I have ......

True. To make an antibody correspondent to a variant might not be a great use. If the antibody produced actually is that divergent from the original form, then yes. Make one.

I've been feeling bad, so took another test. No covid, yay!

Had it twice, once before vaccines, once after. Exactly the same both times.

No, it goes , "burppppppppppppp".

My son had one of these when he got gunner duty on the AFV in Afghanistan. He said it cuts people, cars, buildings in half like butter. Said it was his favorite thing ever.

Well, if you select the 3,000 rpm rate of fire - it does go "burpppppp".

However, if you kick the rate of fire up to 6,000 rpm - it goes "VRRRRRRMMMMMMM".

Either way, the poor bastard on the other end of it just don't know what hit him -

Sorry fer the

Well, I'm glad you don't have it - again! -

Maybe I should send you one of my COVID masks?
