I'm sure, that there are many compromises with stock twins header aswell, such as below optimal runner lengths, too wide merge angles and such. Different priorities.
I love all the hate I get when I tell people this.
If UEL was/is so good then why don't any pro race teams use it.

Constant myth perpetuation over decades is hard to erase.

I just love the sound it makes. You can tell a Subaru from a mile away. EL probably is better but I love my Tomei headers (on my STi my BRZ is stock)

another note regarding the apexi header is that it comes as a set with the OP and FP and since the FP has a fairly large resonator on it, it makes for a much quieter setup even compared to stock when pairing with various aftermarket catbacks @mav1178 posted an in depth review here https://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=103338

I personally run this kit + fujitsubo catback and it's quiet enough that I don't get harassed by cops

Shouldnt it be the other way around? Insulation on the header (wrap, coating or other) and let the pan the way it is? Pretty sure that covering the pan in insulation material just prevents the oil from shedding some heat there.

Yes ideally you want to ceramic coat the header. Keeps heat away from things like the oil pan and coil packs, but the hotter your manifold the higher the exhaust gas velocity from what I can remember.

I hope it will be quiet with my STi axleback...

I've always run it on both. Reflective insulation on the pan prevents head from soaking into it..

Yeah I tend to agree, and with a good wrap, it’s amazing how much heat is kept in the manifold, which aids the exhaust gas flow.
IMHO ceramic coating is a relative waste of money compared to wrap. Plastics were still melting near the headers after I had mine coated… but you can almost touch the headers after being wrapped. (But wrapping is a pain in the butt, and needs upkeep)

Isn't wrap risky if it gets soaked in oil?

Not the wrap itself, just the oil that gets trapped in it...
