i don't think this will be a popular opinion here, but you have ~5k to spend on a good reliable car. 350z. You can buy a very good condition 2006+ (the power bump) model for 10-15k. Very fast, nimble, decent mileage, very, very reliable, and good overall car. Your payments would be dirt cheap, and insurance would be good too. It's what I'd do in your shoes.

I just got my 2013 with 18k miles for 22 out the door and only 3500 down. Payment is 369/month if that helps. Not bad considering I had nothing to put down. Traded in plus 1k cash down

If I were you I would take the bus or carpool until insurance money comes in maybe then you'll be closer to buying?

Nothing wrong with civics, its the drivers that make them look bad.

But after all that I'm really only going to be looking at $5-$6k. I'm in school so I'm gonna have to be working less hours and I know trying to juggle rent and car payments would be a difficult task if even possible. I'm definitely young and stupid but that's just too much of a risk to take.
You may be young but you do not sound stupid to me. I think you have your priorities straight. It is too bad about your Celica but there is no point in compounding the situation by putting yourself into a worse financial position by being impulsive.

Props to you!

Sorry, but don't settle until you get medical and legal representation. There are usually legit claims for delayed neck and back pain that could help here.

Yeah that's what I'm looking at doing. Spending around $4,000-$4,500 for a low mile Celica.

That was literally my first thought haha

Yeah I've saved the receipts for all the repairs I've done and have them all inputted into an excel spreadsheet. I scanned them all and sent them in and it bumped up the return about $600 (I had about $4500 in repairs).

I'm not entirely ruling it out as I used to like the car, but I honestly can't get over the people that drive them. It's just like mustangs. I kinda like having a car that you don't see at every corner and the area I live in is 80% 350s, mustangs, and camaros. It's a pretty petty reason to rule out a great car, but I wouldnt want to buy something I'd always kinda be unhappy with in the back of my mind. Thank you for the suggestion, though! I'll keep it in mind.

I work part time, though, and really only have enough for tuition, rent, food, gas, and a tiny bit extra to throw in savings. It would be unwise of me to take on car payments more than $150-$200 which is kinda unrealistic.

I will vouch that Joe is probably one of the smartest and most sincere "I want an 86" young guys on here and if there were more like him this would be a better world.
Guys
Let's not turn this into another "buy my favourite car" thread. We already have one running. Joe has a plan and there is no point in confusing that with unrealistic day dreams.

Sounds like you're on the right path to success! I think you have a few options for around 5k. Rsx, Integra Gsr, pre 2005 Acura tl, miata, non turbo 300zx(love those cars).

And I know it's not even in the realm of sports cars but if fun is what your lookin for then why not consider a Jeep wrangler? Just a thought, those things are some of the most fun you can have for 5k.

I wouldn't touch any 350z for around 5k because it's more than likely been ragged out ; thus is the fate for most 350's.

I'm a student and bought an frs. DONT DO IT. I absolutely love my car but I wish I would of waited. Listen to these guys and look into a miata if you want a fun/cheap car. The back seats on an frs are only for small children anyway. If I could go back in time and wait I would of. It is extremely stressful to pay for a car, insurance and other things while dealing with school deadlines. It'll be worth the wait though

You drive a bunch of people around and are worried about getting a 2 seater but you're saving up for an 86? If I was in your shoes I'd go find the nicest Miata for $3k with a manual transmission, no regards to the options or year or mileage or any bullshit, get AC get a MT and start enjoying a RWD sports car this week instead of 6+ months from now.

When you are ready for the 86, odds are the Miata will easily sell for what you paid for it +/- a couple hundred bucks (my uncle made money selling his Miata after owning if for ~1 year). Maybe more money if you hang onto it and take care of it.

But I understand wanting something more practical (that's why I didn't buy a Miata), for 4 people hopping in and some fun times for under $5k my money would be in a Mazda Protege5.

But seriously, read this thread that Tcoat already mentioned for ideas, take any models mentioned and go a few years older to find something in budget like instead of RSX look at Integra's.

Maybe a GTI?

Man, reading all these threads about how people can't get the car due to unforseen circumstances makes me feel fortunate that:

- I am done with school
- Working in my field of passion and getting paid more than enough to where I can own the car while enjoying it also. Considering many people my age with no experience aren't even getting phone calls back.

Time to go give the car a hug.
