Rocker Noise normal for the BRZ??

Looking for input from those that know these engines the best.

Recently noticed rocker noise similar to what another member recorded. (see below)

It happened when the car was fully warm (after an afternoon of a lot of short Christmas shopping trips) but only after I turned the car off, then restarted after 5 min and let it sit at idle. Would last maybe 1 min immediately after the warm restart and then resolve.

Common issue? Anything of concern? (Too intermittent to take it to the dealer now) If others have this, has the issue gotten worse??

Thanks

To me that doesn't sound normal. I recommend taking it to the dealer and hope that it's making it at the time, I'd even try showing them the video. At the very least you'll have it on record that is u had concerns.

It could really be a number of internal components, which no could know until they start taking the engine apart (worst case)

For some reason I thought that was my video haha. I had my rocker arms replaced, all of them because they made that noise. It's not normal because that slap is scaring on the heads and possibly cams.

Just take it to the dealer and have them listen to it. I'm not sure what the Subaru Process is, but at Toyota, if the technician says it's normal but you don't think so, you can get a Toyota Engineer to listen to it and make the final call if it's warrantable or not.

Yes..that was your video! Thanks for posting it!

How did the issue start with you? Was it just on warm re-starts like in my case , or did you have it all the time?? Was it infrequent at first and them become more often?

LOL it isn't actually. Mines hosted on Google drive.

The issue just started randomly, I could only hear it on warm start. It was infrequent because I didn't hear it when it was cold.

Mine has been making the same noise for about 48,000 km's now granted it isn't as loud and is less consitant but I can still hear it in the cabin. I just don't worry about it, these cars make noise all the time

I'd agree that these cars make noises all the time. However, I'd rather report something and get it fixed other than wait for it to blow up lol. The noise from the rocker arm is from scraping your heads and possibly cams if it's extreme.

It may or may not be detrimental to the car's health. But it's your car at the end of the day and depends on how paranoid you are. I err on the side of caution, luckily they caught it early enough so that I don't have a hole in my engine lol

Since it happens during a warm re-start at idle, I wonder if the oil pressure on the fully warmed 0w-20 oil is just not high enough at idle causing the issue. You would think if the Rocker arms are bad you would hear it every time at idle and not just during warm re-starts. Makes me want to change to a 5W-30 grade and see if that makes a difference.
