Brz just broke 1k miles, clutch begins to feel grindy

So I just broke 1k miles in my BRZ. I have not driven it hard yet and followed the proper break in procedure. But today while I was driving, I noticed something really strange. When I depress on the clutch and release it after changing the gears as I'm releasing the clutch, I can sort of feel like it is grinding against something. What seems to be the problem?

Check the clutch fluid.
See if's transparent or dirty. It should be yellowish clear and transparent.
I would start with that.

If the problem persist I would bring it to the dealers attention.

^^ nothing. Everything is falling into place and the mechanical parts are getting comfortable with each other. Continue driving it as you please. There are slight remedies to improve that system but if you do it now, you're just throwing $$ away.

There are multi-threads about your experiences but bottomline, you're in the honeymoon phase, enjoy it and drive.

Great! I'll take a look at that.

But the grind/scraping of the clutch appeared after reaching 1000 miles. Is this normal?

Assuming it's the same assembly as in my FR-S, no, it's not normal. I've got 13,000 miles and have never experienced that.

People have experienced grinding/notchy gears, but never heard of the actual clutch feeling like that. Take it in, they'll atleast check your fluid for you and save yourself from getting dirty.

Someone else complained about the similar occurrences. Then they drove someone else's car and it had the same effect. So it was normal for these cars. So if it makes you feel better. Bring it to the dealer and have them tell you that the car is driving normal. No need to spend money if your car is still under warranty.

I had that same exact experience with my FR-S. I'm at 1800 miles now, and it's completely gone. Just keep driving it normally, not too hard, and the grinding WILL go away. Dont worry... about a thang.

You've been babying pre-1K. Now it's finally being utilized. 2 part shaft, diff, and tranny makes for a lot of moving parts. Not to mention an active suspension to throw in the equation and sub-standard pieces to make all that work in harmony. No, this entire car is not normal. It's fun, sexy, and enjoys to talks back haha

Like mentioned, check the fluid. Check the operation of the clutch from the engine bay. Feel the shifting with load vs idle. Drive another 86 and compare. There's funner things to do than to sit at the dealer. Unless of course you deem it necessary and only you can justify that. Some cars came really smooth and some not so smooth but according to the dealer, "it's normal".

Dublin Toyota meet tonight 730p. Check it out and ask.

Yeah this makes sense! I'll check the clutch fluid. I'm not sure if I can make the meet but I'll try to drive another 86 to compare.

Sounds like a good idea. I'll drive it for another week after break in to see what happens! And maybe I'll get a chance to drive another 86 to compare.

Thanks!

I'm trying to find the post but I can't find it. Do you happen to remember which category the thread was under? Thanks!
