86 Sound System

I've read that the FR-S in the US is using a Pioneer setup for its audio system. Does anyone know if the 86 here will have the same setup? If so, are there any details available on the spec? Speaker locations, sizes, model numbers, Amps, subs?
Being an audiophile, this is quite important for me.

I'm just trying to guess whether worth the hassel of taking my current system out of my shitbox car before I sell it and put it into my 86 or just use the stock system.

Cheers

Stock system will be crap. if you have good gears already, i think it's worth swapping over.

You're probably right. If they want to buy my car with the gear I'll just add $2500 on top of the price.

I am no audiofile, but good quality sound is important to me as well. I was thinking of upgrading the stock 86 stereo with good JBL stuff, as this is what toyota aus seem to use in their premium audio.
Just to keep a bit of purism going :P
or you can always go Mark Levinson like in the Lexus premium sound :P
The MB quartz's I have in my Mira sound quite good, but I don't think I'd bother putting them in the 86

A Rockford Fosgate setup. Basically replaced all stock drivers (Tweeters in the dash, 6" in the front doors, 6x9" in the rear) powered by a 4 channel amp. 10" sub in the boot running off a monoblock. Clarion touch screen headunit.

I couldn't care less about how much bass or volume pumps outside the car. As long as everything is balanced and sounds crisp and punchy in the driver's seat, I'm happy! =D

Best $3000 I ever spent!

Fortunately for me, all the 8 needed was a sub, and tweaks to the balances for the Bose

If you look at one if the diagrams in another thread (sorry don't know which one...) There are 2 in the front lower corner of the doors and 2 near the arm rests of the back seat. They'll probably be 5 or 5.5 inch speakers. Not sure what head unit they will provide but it also depends what level of trim you decide to buy as to what unit you get and I think also number of speakers? Or is that only the low spec Jap version?

I've noticed stock quality in new cars isn't too bad these days. My mum's got a Civic (2010 model) and the quality is pretty good when playing from CD. Radio is a bit dodgy, but seems to be in all cars when you turn it right up, haha. Plenty of bass and treble is clear.

If I was to do any upgrades, I'd probably go for the front speakers and an amp first, then probably do the headunit. Don't think I'd worry about the rear speakers being a 2+2. It'd be great if the rear had 6x9's as they generally give enough bass to keep me happy (if they do, I would consider upgrading + amping them). Given the compact dimensions of the car and the fact I'd love to be able to use all the space it does have, I don't think I'd install a sub.

most if not all amps have hi-input connectors that allow you to simply wire the speaker outs from the stock headunit straight into the supplied harness with the amp, plug it in, and go.

rears should be on the to do list. I notice difference when I have my parcel shelf with speakers removed that there is a difference in sound. I tend to roll the fader forward a few points though as the rears are running off the head unit only whereas the fronts are via the amp.

They should just bloody get some into the Showrooms already and let us test it out! I doubt I would be going with a higher specced model as I'd most likely be investing in a new headunit and speakers etc.

Would be a shame to buy a high spec only to replace all the audio equipment which you paid a premium for.

i'll try to keep my car as light as possible so it will be a light upgrade for me similar to what i had on my old EP3.

i wouldn't change HU tho as it will have bluetooth, USB etc so i'll just swap a pair of Focal splits at the front, fade out the rear and probably hook up a powered sub which can be taken out when i track the car.

this is pretty much all i need as i won't do sound deadening etc to save weight so anything more fancy will likely be wasted.

I'm banking on it being pretty ordinary, even the Mark Levnison in my old mans IS350 is average...

But then again its hardly a selling point... they could sell it sans any mod cons for all I care.

Good point. My mum drives a IS350 and her system is, as you said, pretty average. I can't imagine the 86 having a better one.
I will most likely just transfer all my stuff into the 86. Should be fine since my sub is removable if I need to.
